I also agree Atari 8 bit computers were best value for the price in their time. Inner hardware is excellent, among them ANTIC, GTIA and POKEY. Graphics is great and sound is great if it is used properly. Games are the best. I still love those machines.
The 800XL and 130XE were not really game consoles, but they doubled as games consoles for all intents and purposes.
I still have my 800XL, and a whole BOX of 5.25" floppies.
The games for the Atari 8-bit machines were ahead of their time, and there were as many games for the 8-bit flavors of Atari, as their major competetor, that being Commodore.
From time to time, I still get out my 800XL and play games on it.
I have transferred the majority of my 180k disks to the PC using SIO2PC program, DOS, and a transfer cable.
This is just to preserve the old disks.
Also, it allows you to run your 800XL or 130XE from a cheap nasty 286 PC or better - use a cheap 386/486 DOS based laptop, running SIO2PC, connected to the Atari, and you can load all your games and programs very fast in this way.
