had the car 10 years and travelled 2-300 miles per week little issue with the car .. even when time did not permit me to look after it as I should have had the 91 gts model and appart from the usual gearbox at 100k had little or no issue with the car superb car .. comfortable and issue free .. gave good road handling but was prone to cross wind disturbance .. easy to see where the safety standards renault have set them selves since really took hold
Had a 1990 TXI almost from new (since 1993) still runs like a dream, especially good in straight lines, wallows a bit around town but for comfort, reliability and style just a classic. I told a French taxi driver I had one and I might sell it, he just said DON'T sell it. So I won't.
I have just seen 480,000 Km (300,000 miles) come and go on my GTD. This is a French model, 2068cc Diesel (no turbo) - sold as the Renault 21 GTD Manager in France. I've had the car long enough to put 200,000 miles on it. I have had minor niggles with electrics and slightly less minor ones with radiators - I am currently fitting my third! Other than that, this car has been fantastic. Roomy, reliable, economic (40mpg or 7.1l/100km no problem, mainly motorway at 85mph / 150kph). Rust is becoming a problem on rear wheel arches, rear door skins and front chassis crossmember.
I own a 1993 savanna diesel turbo. Wonderful car and got 14000 miles out of it in 14 months. Always be careful about rust on these vehicles. Have a good look at the body not forgetting the underside of the car. Never buy without MOT unless you can do failure certificate stuff cheaply. No failure cert do not buy. I moved house three times with this vehicle so it paid for itself in just removal vehicle hire costs. Electrics should be 100% or else trouble is your destiny.
Not a bad car by any means. Hell to find parts for nowadays (depending on engine type) but mine died a month or two again when I discovered that to replace the Weber carb would cost £900. About 18 times what I could get for the car working. It wasn't in best of condition when I inherited it, so the 6 months I got out of it weren't bad. Got me where I needed to go, without too many hassles. A 1000 miles in a day was done without protestation. Still, avoid it if you expect to maintain it cheaply.
I have a r19 TD RT, It had 150k on the clock when I got it now it has 174k and the only thing I have done to it is change the oil & filter every 5k and changed the air & fule filters every 10k. Every thing works e/w c/l ect... Great car and dirt cheap to run Computer Junky
A year ago I sold my 1991 Renault 21 2.0 TXi with 225,000 on the clock. A fantastic, powerful and roomy car, but very faulty. I switched it for the Laguna Estate 1.8 and Renault gave me 4,400 for it, but maintenance and service cost me 5,200 during the 4 years it had it. Average petrol consumption was 11 lt/100 km (in the city and in the motorway going 160-180 km/h). At 100 km/h in the motorway it consumed 7 lt/100 h. Although its continuous faults gave me the creeps when I had it, I already miss this car.
the best car we had. we even name her. she was a part of the famley. we now a vaxhall carlton its shit. give me back the renaut25. if your got r25 think your got one of the best cars out.
When i was 15 my uncle laet me drive his 1985 1400 gts, and i said to my self if i ever get the chance to get i wud, im 18 now and on the 15th july i saw one for a £150 i paid £100 for it! 1987 1200 TC taxed till october mot till april 04 it hasnt broke down on me yet slight juddering wen accelerating and stalls wen in low revs. part from that it fires up straight from the key every morning! if anyones breaking for spares let me know!
There Will Not Be Any cars Produced Similar to this car,There is No other car that can crash into a Van 180Km/h and still be a Car,The Doors Didn't reflect to the accident,Only The Motor was Replaced and the first 20 inches of the Chasis were repaired. I Love this Car Though it Made Me suffer After the Accident because of the lack of Spare Parts...but this is only here in Egypt,By the way,I Owned Three R25....I LOVE u SOOOOOOO MUCH R25.
Renault 21 Turbo "Tour De Cours" I've had mine for 6 months and it really is an excellent car although rather thirsty on short journeys. Mine cost me £600 plus another £250 for parts and labour to get it on the road. I had to buy a car as i had been made redundant from a reps job and lost my company car but in 27 yrs repping I've never had a car as well appointed as this 21 and certainly never had anything so bloody fast!!! There is bags of room for passengers and the boot is huge--only an MPV offers more carrying capacity. It is delightful to drive and only short thirsty runs are a problem--about 25mpg. Any decent long runs see me getting 36mpg which is fine. My son fitted a dump valve and even with the boost running at only 50%, the performance is incredible. ALL IN ALL, A GOOD BUY-- WORTH £850 OF ANYONES MONEY
Own a 1988 1.7 TXE. Bought it with 60k on the clock for £350. Would highly recommend it. It hates starting when cold and isn't the cheapest thing to maintain - but its extremely comfortable and pretty nippy whilst returning a very sensible mpg. Cheap to insure and reliable on the whole. Electric windows, sunroof, remote alarm - and there's very little that wont fit on the boot with the seats down! I'd have another. Be sorry to see it go.
i owned a 1800cc 16v phase one model, some minor mods such as k+n induction kit, and a devil decat pipe, this car was lowered(sensibly) by a previous owner and was the best handling car i have owned, i beat a standard rs turbo, and a few golf gtis, was not too keen on the interior but got used to it not too bad on the gas either, these engines can be tweaked up to 175bhp(standard 138) without much loss in reliability and i would have another any day of the week, possibly a phase two nextime a much uderrated drivers car, buy parts from one of the specialists in car mags(much cheaper than renault dealers), only downside i found was the 6000mls service intervals but overall a great car .
I love my Renault! OK, so it's old, the heater doesn't work, the shocks need replacing and one of the driveshafts is on the fritz, but apart form that, my Renault 11 rocks! Why buy a 4WD? Have you ever checked out the ride height on an 11? It's obscene! This car has amazing off-road abilities. I've taken mine repeatedly over farm yard tractor rutted unmade roads with people in it and almost never bottomed out. Anyone out there got a heater matrix?
As these cars are not popular very cheap to buy hence i own two. I find them generally dull to drive build quality poor reliability very good 87 1.4 gtl £275 2.5 years still running
87 auto £310 1.5 years no problem till this week carb fault! summary buy cheapest lowest mileage you can get, run as long as you can then throw away! excellent disposable car
