Rough to drive but mechanically rugged. Refinement, when driven more than at a snails pace, is bad, a throwback to early 80's suspension and engine design. 3 speed auto okay for town use, but delivers poor MPG. Not enough gears for serious overtaking though. Interior compartment is bargain basement, with quality of fittings to match. Exterior door handls pulled off(!) after 6 years, and rust (in a chicken pox type distribution) appeared about the same time.

The Proton Persona 1.6 has a very good trck record. It is so reliable it just keeps on going. The inside is very nice and so is the controls. My son has the Proton Compact 1.5 and he is very pleased with it. He says it does all the things that he expects from a car.
