I got mine for £600 new 2002 ish model registered 2004. It has never really broken down. Once going down a hill too fast air was being pumped into the pistion and it died but it didn't take long to fix myself.I was lucky being close to a sym dealer, which you need for any veichle for any small parts. The bike has been great for a 50cc not a problem. Lots of parts on ebay cheap insurance cheap tax cheap oil/petrol. i wouldn't get a sym jet 100 because you can get a proper bike with gears and from te other review. Don't think that the jet 50 is the same as the jet 100. The jet 50 is good. If you want to be differnt and not have a speedfight like everyone else in the world buy this. the euro x has fantastic styling and sym made the style difference at just the right time to keep sym on the market. handling is good as you are low to the ground a new set of grippy tires would give you faster cornering in the wet but they are good as they are. If you are buying a sym jet make sure you can get access to a dealer for parts and make sure it's the sym jet eurox. Don't let that stop you from getting the original styling model although the more modern model is a better one to get. Performance you can change if you want. There is lots of performance things you can do.
sym jet 50 2002
this website is the best http://www.angelfire.com/space/csdority/......Restricting.htm
If you have a sym jet the best thing to do from new is to De-Restrict you exhast like on the site. I would advise getting a weld on the exhaust (this will get you at about 60-65km/h as soon as the carbon has covered the fresh metal inside the exhaust). I think you best bet for power is to find a perfect mach of a sports exhaust (buying them all) or De-Restrict the standard one (best). The cdi unit may also be Restricted but I dont know i couldn't find it and there isn't enough info on the web to find anything about them (I was told there wasn't any electrical rescrtition) I dont see the point anyway increasing the rpm will make it blow. Another good mod would be to change the variator there is no Restricted washer thing in it, but buying a new inner front variator will help:

Another hard thing is to get the rollers/weights right. They aren't too expensive buy a few sets differnt weights.
Don't buy the clutch thing unless you want to be angry for an afternoon it doesn't do much anyway.
There is no point in carb changes much. You could change the main jet (giving more petrol in the mix about 5km/h max!) although the main jet isn't an easy thing to find anywhere. a good idea is to drill it a wee bit making the hole bigger (dont go over the top though the more changes you have made i.e. if you have a different piston or exhaust or airfilter, the more you can change the main jet size info on changing on: http://www.angelfire.com/space/csdority/......estricting.htm) Leave the airfilter the same apart from maybe take the first layer of light spong off the air filter element) A trip to a dealer of sym may help in all of this. all this doesn't apply to euro x. Ask me questions if you have euro x. You can eventually get the sym jet with 50cc piston at about 70mph i think. Ask any questions (i am an expert on sym jet 50 in general) dont drill your exhaust that will make you go slower if you have done over 5000km drilling the air box for a field bike would be ok; just clean the airfilter it might help. The less you do to your bike the more reliable it is, but who cares about reliability when all you can do is 30. By the way the best way to go faster after all this is to get a cagiva mito, aprilia rs125 (De-Restricted), yamaha dt125 (De-Restricted) or a sachs xtc 125.
