We upgraded from a 22ft pandora to a jag 27 and have been very pleased with the boat. Better accomodation and faster and with a more modern look than the westerly centaur which was the other boat we looked at we are glad we made the choice we did. We love the massive table and the large cockpit. Any one taller than 5ft 10 might find the v bed too small.
Excellent seaboat, I've had mine for 5 years now, fin keel 1974 model. Ideal boat for 2/3 adults cruising or 2+2 children. Large cockpit with an airy interior, lots of stowage both internally and in the cockpit. Have been all over the Thames Estuary, St Katherines Dock, France Belgium & Holland. Have been out in a F7/8 and had no qualms about the boat, the crew will give up before the boat. Built very strongly as were all boats of that era. Faster than a Contessa 28(my friends boat anyway)in most conditions. Easy to steer both under power and sail, as long as the sail plan is balanced. Pronounced prop kick to port in reverse, but soon get used to. My boat has a fully battened mainsail, roller genoa and a Perkins Perama 18HP engine. Active Owners Association with rallies on the East & South Coast.
Ours is a 1979 fin-keeled model, well balanced, responsive and well behaved in all weathers. She is strongly built, as they were in those days. Accommodation is good, 5'10 headroom, light and spacious. Based on Catalina 27, USA, the most popular sailing ever cruiser produced,(6000+) and for good reason. There is a good owners group.
