I paid £1500 for my 1996 TZR125R about 5 months ago. It caught my eye on ebay and i fell in love with it. It has a red and white Yamaha paint scheme, upside down forks, brembo brakes front and rear and wide,white wheels. Iwould guess my bike gets from 0-60 in around 7 seconds, i have had 100mph out of it and it has another 1,000 rpm to go, just as fast if not faster than the competition. This bike beats 2.0 litre cars up to around 60-70 mph. Looking for a 400 next.
I had a kawasaki KH-125 b4 gettin my TZR. And to b honest my kawasaki had better acceleration. But the yamaha feels a lot smoother n i havn't had many problems. Accept lack off power. It seems like its restricted although it still does 80mph. I need to make it faster b4 i op'd out for a 400cc. I've never had problems in the rain tho. My kawasaki was weak for rain, and my piston rings went.
I have a 1995 Italian import TZR 125R. It is the white, pink and blue one. OK, colour is not exactly to my taste but it does turn heads!!
I am a learner and this is my first ever bike, and at 28yrs I can appreciate what this thing can do. I drive a diesel estate too, and to be honest, I would ride this instead of my car any day! What a great great fun bike.
The only bad thing being that a Haynes manual for my bike is non-existent! I think they must have stopped selling UK spec. TZR's around 1993 or something (?).
I would recommend that you use the best 2T oil you can afford! This bike has been a great little learning machine :D
Another tip for would be owners. Make sure you warm the little baby up properly before you take her out. Riding her cold makes for sluggish and patchy performance until operating temperature.
Well, sweet machine. I am thinking of getting my direct access in the next 6 months, then I will keep on riding her (minus the L-plates of course). I know I will want a bigger bike at some point, but it will be a sad day when I part with my little TZR pocket rocket.
So you want to beat that aprilia rs do you? me too damn it. i've spent the last 10 hours straight scouring the web, and this seems to be how to do it.
1) The first thing to do is to turn the powervalve around to open the exhuast port wide open this will let your bike rev right out but you will give the bike a much narrower powerband so youll be reving it alot more to pull off and go up hills. The best plan is get the powervalve servo and control box to adjust the exhaust acording to the revs. this is the main restriction on all uk tzr's, I haven't got one yet, but i want to know what they're keeping back. 2) An exhaust system will cost you over £100 for a full system but will add on alot of power and make it sound great to. Race pipes are loud, so watch out for the mot man. 3) the air filter is also worth a look youll prob. have to drill holes in the filter casing to let the engine breath up in the higher revs. It may be possible to build some sort of ram air system. Also think about puting a bigger jet in the carb, youll ad on about 3-4 hp and itll sound really beefy to. I think you need to be carefull what jet you choose or you might make things worse. 4) the tzr may be restricted through the cdi ignition box but only on models newer than 1991 H rej. so if you can find a cdi box older than 91' youll add on big hp by changing it. But this might be just stories, lets just say we have unconfirmed reports 5) you can also get a set of carbon reeds to add on a bit of throttle response not that it really needs any more. you can do more small things like rasing the compression n' stuff but youll risk cooking your engine so its not really worth it.
This is what I have picked up after lots of google searches (the bulk of this message is copied from a dt message by daz since the dt engine is mostly identical to the tzr) and so, the ultimate test of the internet. I am going to do all of these things and try not to blow my balls off with an exploding fireball. (or as much as can fit on the credit card)
If anyone can help me find the parts I need like the ypvs bits please get in touch, and if any of this is wrong please let me know before I break my little beast
Hi. Just bought a L reg TZR125R. I think it look very tidy. I am sure it is restricted somehow but not 100% sure how. I will try and open the powervalve fully but i think it might be the ignition thats the problem cos it wont rev past 8500rpm and it doesn't redline till 12000. Still get 80mph out of it mind. Anyone got on and know how to de-restrict it, what wire to cut or something?? Paid £1250 with 7000miles and in very good condition.
I got a Tzr 125r which has been tuned and it will blow past my mates CR 500. I think they are great bikes very rapid shame they are getting old now

I bought a TZR125R and it is a great bike!!It is very fast!!I think if you buy it then there is a resrtiction on but when I bought mine it was already taken off so I get 180KM/H out of mine.I am going to get a Bosson pipe and then it will be even faster, but as is it outruns a Aprilia RS125 so why spend R30000 on a Aprilia if a tzr125r can go just as fast or even faster?!The parts ar freely availeble.Dount buy a normal TZR coz the Tzr 125R is much better then the normal TZR but the TZR is a good bike aswell but dosent come close the mine.
i had this bike for 2 months, slow, crap, not worth it, pass ur test and get somin bigger, like a kwasaki zxr400

i think the tzr125r is awesome i picked up a mint nreg96 black and purple 1 which was restricted. i haggled him down to just £900. i blew it up once cos the previous owner put the wrong plug in it and it burned a hole in the piston. but i rebuilt it and derestricted it put a can on it cos the standard 1 has a catalytic converter on it.unfortunately some1 else took a liking to it and it got stolen but im now lookin 4 an italian tzr125rr in black.
