I bought a 10 year old 9-3SE a year ago with 75K on the clock and full service history. ive just had to put an MOT on the car and the only problem i had with it was one of the front coil springs had broken. It has the 2.3 non turbo engine in which is ok but a little sluggish. The interior is very nice and comfortable, lots of gadgets and well put together. Overall a very nice car and well worth the money.

I bought the 9-3 2.2TiD with 70k FSH. It was 4 years old when I purchased it. The problem was not the interior which was practical comfortable and well designed. It was a) the handling - loss of traction was a real problem, especially when cornering, and when it rained modest acceleration would result in front of car slewing accross the road! Unbelieveably poor. Then there was the paint which was so soft, just looking at it caused scratches. Then the clutch bearing plate needed replacing, the trip computer display failed (guaranteed to fail within 4 years according to dealer!) £400, air con computer failed (£600), synchromesh was severely worn and gearbox was showing signs of failure... Now you might think that I just bought a dog, but upon further research, I found that these are typical problems for 9-3's. SAAB rep for reliability and longevity are not going to last long with rubish like this on the streets. I understand that the replacement model. 2002- suffers the same traction problems, no wonder the ad campaign was so keen to assert that the new 9-3 'sticks to the road like glue'.... I got shot of this car as soon as I could. Now I drive a Merc. Now that's a car whose rep is deserved.

Owned for 6 months.
Saab 9-3SE has been very reliable, is very well finished, comfortable, good value for money. Very reasonable servicing costs. Can't fault it but I'm not a mechanic just a Saab fanatic !
