This is the boat that should have been built first instead of the Macwester 26. The 27 is essentially an upgraded version of the 26 and all the better for it. Strange, how that extra foot changes the interior 'feel' of the boat, much more roomy it seems than the 26. The sailing performance is greatly improved by much deeper keel, giving greater grip when going to windward. If looking for a Westerly 26 or Macwester 26 then consider the Mac 27, better that both. Check out my web site, I now own a Southern Cross 31, I highly reccommend it!
Roomy, bilge keels, better windward performance than the Mac 26
Owned for 3 years now, slowley refitted her, Sailed her in winds gusting F8, I have no worries about her seaworthyness, I am shore that she will take more than I can. Going to fit new furling main this year and new mainsail and rigging, Going to rig her for a crusing-shoot to improve light wind sailing. I already run second head sail hosted on it own cable from the samson post, this works very well. Max speed over ground with wind and tide 10.6 knots. wind F6. tide aprox-3 knots.
THE 27 HAS BEEN VERY GOOD AND BY SHAPING THE KEELS ON THE FRONT AND BACK EDGE HAS MADE THE TOP END SPEED IMPROVE I.E. FOR THE SAME ENGINE REVS 4.8 IS NOW 5.2 KNOTS,AND UNDER SAIL SHE APPEARED TO PICK UP MUCH QUICKER AND MADE 6.2 KNOTS IN FORCE 5-6 NEXT YEAR I AM GOING TO PUT ON AN EXTRA HEAD SAIL,AFTER TRIALS LAST YEAR TO IMPROVE THE SPEED IN WINDS OF FORCE 2 TO 3
Owned for 3 years.
