I had a 83 model back in the early 90s - The motor is bomb proof , handlin good .
The main thing is its really tunable - its basically very simple to get it up mx power levels . Mine did a timed 93 mph and would pull that even up hills and out accelerated a de restricted TZR 125 .
Here goes - If you do nothing else do this - there is big step in the exhaust port designed to stop the engine getting peaky - completely smooth this out . The engine will now develop a strong kick at 6/7000rpm .

Junk the air box , fit a k and n and jet kit - motor will then rev out to 11000.

Take the head off and remove gasket and grind the head in with valve paste - ignition is not adjustable but theree no need .

Widen exhaust port 2mm each side . raise 1,5 mm .Raise transfers 1 mm . Lower inlet at least 3 mm .
Cut 2mm off the rear piston skirt - enlarge holes in skirt and round off.

If you are going to do the above you will need an expansion chamber - we made one according Alexander Bells theory - you can use a allspeed but you will have to cut it about a bit to get it to work at higher revs than standard - the above porting is designed for peak power At 10000revs . This means about an inch off the down pipe of an allspeed .

Low bars essential , and rear sets .
One tooth bigger front sprocket .

Thsi produces an explosive kick a 7000 rpm and revs to 11000 . Timed over a mile @93 mph thus producing at least 20 bhp . This off the clock ( which is on average 3-7 mph out ). 0-60 timed at 8 seconds . Top speed in 3rd is over 80 ! at 11000 revs . ( LOL) . Probably do more with higher gearing , but the 5 speed box is too spaced out so u gotta have revs in hand everywhere really .

You can fit a 26 mm carb from a 350 lc or a 24 from a 125 lc .
However at the revs we tuned it at the standard carb ( 22 mm ) is ok and less hassle to jet ,( its a myth that bigger carbs automatically mean more power - you need one that flows enough full stop ) .

Experiments with a 26 allowed it to pull through the last 1000 revs quicker so would give more options with gearing -would be essential to at least bore out the standard carb if tuned any higher or bored out to higher cc.

We also fitted Boysen reeds , and smoothed out the cage for flow and bent the stops right back .

I sold it then , but was planning another mm of the exhaust and a bored out carb ( to 24) to shift peak to 11000 and get a real ton
if u dont chamfer the ports it will eat piston rings and a piston set only lasts 2-3000 miles even if u do as does the plug and you absolutly HAVE to use racing oil and premium fuel - have fun .
- however i will warn you that you wont get more tham 35 mpg after this lot !!

I bought my RXS 100 in 1998 and loved every minute of it until it was killed by a Ford Sierra pulling out in front of me on a busy roundabout. Snapped the front forks, nearly crushed the tank entirely, buckled the front wheel snapped off the pedals and levers.
Anyway back to the bike; I had it checked over by a mate after I bought it and he was suspicious of its 100cc and indeed when we cracked it open we discovered it had been rebored to around 175cc.
Naturally I was mighty happy and speeds around 90mph were achievable. I miss it like crazy. In all I had three spills on it including one at 65mph on a wet diesely road. Fun Fun Fun.

Keep the faith.

bought my first one in 2001 for £300 rode it for about a year then sold it. missed it so much I tracked it down and bought it back 6 years later. good allrounder easy to maintain and if looked after it will last forever. fast uptown its topspeed (about 68) if your too lazy to lie on the tank and its just short enough to get your foot round the number plate if your too late to slow down for the camera. hense the cracked plate. would deffinitley reccomend.

i got my rxs to learn on prior to my test and its been brilliant it beats my mates cbr on acceleration and only just loses out on top end ive had 77 on mine. These bikes also have a great riding position real comfy. i rode the yamaha ybr 125 for my test and my god is it shit, slow and boring compared to the rxs why do yamaha make that instead of the bullet proof yammy 100s. mines for sale £325 o.n.o (see ad section)

I bought my RXS100 in 1987 brand new F reg for £800 (£52 a month on the never never). I wanted a 125 to look like a power ranger DT125, RD125 or NSR125. the man in the shop explained that these 125's were restricted to 12hp and therefore gutless unless they had there powervalves illegally altered etc but the RXS100 was naturally 12hp.

this bike flew even though if you cornered too hard the footpegs hit the floor and flew you down the road.

I got stopped by the police wanting to know how I kept up with him. you do need to get your head down and chin on the tank to get the best out of it. I am looking for another one now just for that second gear powerband woosh, the speedo on mine read 85/90 on a downhill run. considering I did my CBT the other day on a CG125 that struggled to get above 45mph on a hill this little red rocket was awsome.

I would not ever suggest boreing it out and they look rubbish with a micron exhaust, the only thing I noticed which improved its performance was changing the rubber washer at the bottom of the exhaust down pipe it has a tiny hole in it to keep the engine compression at low revs or simply undo the metal bracket a little bit to let off a bit of pressure.

the only other 100/125 which kept close was a suzuki gp100 same style not as nice looking but quite quick too.

I think the common faults with these are

1) jealous other twerps sticking their fingers through the energy induction box, when it is hot and soft.

2) coils burn out

3) somewhat dodgy electrics (mine caught fire whilst parked up :( )

4) fat people on the back

I want one I want one I want one, but I think I will get a bandit instead.

To that guy andywill. i would'nt go too drastic in to tuning it, but here are some small cheap things you can do,get some carbon fiber reed valves, get your head skimmed, the ristrictor
is in the baffell take it out and its about one quarter from the end you will see where it is blocked its like a washer, take it out but this makes the bike more noisy you can get an k and n air filter, this sits on the back of the carb so the tubing to the air box has to go. you can drill the jets in the carb but its hassell, bec you need a very small drill bit.its up to you ? you can also get a spitfire spark plug its suppose to increase you speed by 3 to 5 mph but its being a long time since i got one of the plugs. over all if you done all this you would be quite amazed with these little bikes performance.. good luck.

there great

The RXS100 is good little bike. It isn't a sports bike and it isn't fast (except perhaps to a new rider). Nevertheless it will do seventy plus in one direction, (head down and elbows tucked in) providing the pilot isn't too baulky and there isn't an unfavourable wind.

A quick word now about the TTSF (The Teenage Top Speed Formula). This is the highest speed ever seen on the (inacurate) speedo, in a single direction, downhill and with a following wind, plus the addition of an arbitrary ten per cent, which then becomes the bike's claimed top speed.

That apart, the RXS100 can be made to go very well indeed. Sensible port work alone can make a surprising addition to the available power - more so than just bolting on bits such a reed kit and a micron pipe. Widening the exhaust port by a millimetre and removing most of the step at the top will yield surprising benefits. Great care needs to be taken in carrying out this work, especially where the port opens out into the bore. Here it is absolutely crucial to bevel the edges to 1mm, otherwise you will break piston rings as sure as eggs is eggs. Raising the exhaust port will increase the duration (and the engine speed) and this works well in conjunction with a suitable expansion chamber exhaust. The addition of a 26mm carb will make the bike fly. It must be remembered however that when we make power at the top of the rev-range we take it away from the bottom. You might find that on opening the throttle at 40mph in fourth gear all you will get is brrrwwww, requiring a change down into third. Meanwhile your mates on their untuned bikes have sped past you.

Simplicity, reliability, good all-rounder
Poor brakes. Horrible frame construction.

Hi,Had the bike since new(1990Hreg)reliable as hell, had 83mph out of the thing(face down on clocks)though i only weighed about 10 stone then!!only gripe with it is the front drum brake being utter crap and the 6v headlight is about as bright as a candle.still starts after 3rd kick even when i left the bike stood in the garage for 4 years untouched.would recommend these bikes to anyone even though they're an old bike now my RXS is still 10mph quicker than a lot of new 125's on the market that i have ridden.new parts are getting harder and more expensive to come by though but there is still a couple of online bike pattern parts places that do the basics you might need on an old bike like this one.try http://www.wemoto.com or http://www.bitzforbikes.com

This review is not really relevant to european owners But just in case you didn't believe the review of the asian market Rx/yt 115 on this page, out here in Indonesia we get an overbored and tweaked rx called the rx king. I just bought a new one. It's got a 132 cc twin squish motor with yeis and knocks out 18.5 h.p. at 9000 rpm (red lined at 10) but only weighs 100 kg which gives it a similar power to weight ratio as my old air cooled rd 250 twin. And yes, it wheelies like buggery.

Hi there. Im got my H reg RXS about 3 months ago and i love it. Had to do a bit of work to it. Fork seals needed replacing, added a horn and mirrirs but thata about it. For a 100 the exelleration is phenomenal. have had 95mph out of it so far and it can still go some more. Brilliant bike. Good for learners.
I give it 9/10.
