We upgraded from a 42" to a 50" (boys and their toys huh!) But have to say its been a good move.
The sound on the LG is fantastic, the picture quality is much much better, and watching HD/BluRay on it is phenominal!
It was a package deal from Curry's, so we got surround sound and a dvd player included in the price, tho the dvd player isn't great (we have gone back to our old one - the kids have the newer one in their room now) and surround sound though would be good, our living room is a tad too small to put it up so its home is in the loft!
We have had the tv just under a year now, and had no faults or any problems at all. Plenty of connectors to it too, we have a pc linked to it, a wii, ps3, plus the dvd player and there are a couple of spares still.
Also included was inbuilt freeview, tho we haven't hooked it to the arial as we have sky.
Definately recommend LG widescreen, great quality, reliability and damn it looks good! :)
Shows movies how they should be shown, great for bluray and hd movies.
Teco 32" LCD TV bought Jan 2007 All was well to begin with, then after a few months it developed a fault that my son noticed. The screen was a lighter shade at the right hand side, from about 5" from edge. I lived with this, then another fault. When you change the volume on the remote, it changes the A/V channel. Had to switch it off and on again to correct. Took the betteries out of remote and used te sky button. Then at the beginning of Sept it died. No lights anywhere. Not enough space on here to tell you the trials and tribulations to get it repaired under warranty. Some of the info is in this train http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?p=1172503
I would not reccommend that you get a Teco.
As for widescreen versus 4:3 I previously had a 10 year old 29" Sony which had been great, until it blew up, so I wanted a new thin screen LCD, and after looking at all the specification and value for money, opted for the 32" Teco. The new 32" is not as big a picture area as the old 29"! Most TV programs are still in the old square format, so when you set the picture on that format, it is only equivalent to about a 21" TV. If you leave it on widescreen format, everyone looks fat and squat. If the program was made in widescreen format then it is okay, but still not equivalent in overall area. If you currently have a large old style screen, you should consider replacing it with at least a 37" widescreen. As for the picture quality. Your old CRT TV probably will have gotten a bit tired over the years, so you should be pleased with the brilliance of the new LCD TV. But whether you choose a new LCD or CRT TV. I dont think there is much difference in the picture quality, and they still take up the same space in the corner, as you will probably still have to house the VCR, Sat box, DVD and all the tapes/DVD's etc
Hopefully most new films/programs are recorded in widescreen format.
FAT people if you don't select the correct format.
Id just like to say, i also purchasaed a 32" widescreen tv, which now looking at other peoples purchases, realise that they have come down in price a lot. I paid £349.00 for mine and have also seen them cheaper than that. I love my 32" and wouldnt also mind going up a little bigger. Ill just maybe have to wait a little while longer and hopefully theyl come down even more in price.
I bought a 32" low price (£599)never heard of brand LCD wide screen. So far it is fantastic,it seems too big at first but you get used to that. The only fault I have with it is moving closeup that the picture wobbles a bit as if it is trying to catch up with the camara. It is not really a problem unless you are a sport fanatic as normal TV is a great picture.
I also bought a wide screen 32" flat screen about 12 months ago (about £950 inc 5 year warrenty), with a plan to replace in 5 years time ish with a 42" plasma, when they'l be as cheap as chips. A few months ago saw 32" LCD in comet for under £1000. Annoyed or what!!!
