I had a 1992 micra when I passed my test but sold it to buy something newer, a vauxhall corsa, oh stupid me. I have now bought a lovely little L reg 998cc 16 valve and it is so much nippier than my last car, uses less petrol is MUCH easier to park and is generally nicer. Would definitely have more in the future.
I can only add my words of praise for the Nissan Micra SE I know people make remarks about these cars being driven by old ladies etc, well let me tell you, it is a great car to drive, nippy, reliable, and best of all it has a fantastic turning ability, it can virtually turn on a sixpence, and this makes it so easy to park and manuever. I have found my Micra to be extremely economical petrol wise, extremely comfortable with plenty of leg room for passengers in the rear. I really can't praise this little gem high enough, and hope people will try a test drive before making remarks...I bet you will be impressed with how easy it is to drive and how much you enjoy it.
I own a k11 1995 998cc model. The car is dam nippy if you use the gears well. 16 valve multipoint injection and the fact that the car weighs about as heavy as a feather means that it can burn off 1.2 corsa's Polo's nova's ect... with no problem (until 50mph, where the power dies). U will surprize some boy races. The enguine can rev upto 6000rpm without sounding strained or bothered. The speeds you can achieve in some gears are amazing. 1st gear 29mph, 2nd 51mph, beyond this the power dies. Motorway cruizing at 80mph is no trouble (unless its uphill, micra's hate hills!!!) mines passed its last 2 MOT's needing only one repair, a wheel cylinder costing about £15. I get a fuel economy of about 42mpg even the way i drive it. The micra's handling is the only issue, it leans in the corners quite allot (But i think this only adds to the exciting experience of driving one) Wot can i say, this cars ugly, handles like a donkey, but its the cheepist highest value 4 money car available at the bottom end of the car market. buy one (but check service history carefully) and i promise. It won't let you down.(Mine still lives on today after 4 years of punnishment)
I have a 1.3LX - nice little car until the potentiometer went, it was still covered by the warranty but took them 3 weeks to replace it despite being told the exact problem. The chassis is starting to rust a bit, but it lives on a farm, drives in wet muddy conditions. The gear change is wearing too, hard to get into 2nd with out clunking it. It has been a good reliable car, ok on insurance, and ok on fuel, needs to be tuned well to perform. Parts to seem to be expensive for it, especially now its been written off by a twig! You could blink and miss the damage that has been caused, but estimates are over £1700, so the car will be sorted out by myself and sold on. Other than buying it off a rubbish dealer (Co-op) been a good solid car, wont buy one again though.
Have owned my micra (Indie) since 2000. He's a 1.2, 5 door example and has never let me down once. The 1.2 is great around town and perfectly adequate on the motorway (70 no probs). I regularly drive from Edinburgh to Chester with no complaints except that fast corners on twisty roads can be interesting, remedy is to remember this and slow down. Now done 112,000 miles (last 50,000 by me) and at 14 years old is showing his age but still going. Cost nothing at the last MOT so fingers crossed for the next! P.S. I previously owned a MKII fiesta which had everything replaced in a very short time then I got rid of it. I would get a micra over a fiesta any day. Perfect student car. Only niggle is slightly lumpy idile but remedy is to keep the fan on low. All in all a sound car that is economical and cheap to run... stress free ownership.
i have a 1988 1.0 ls its done 150,000 miles on its origional engine and shows no signs of giving up. Its nippy, cheap to run and very reliable. Passed its last mot no problems.
Its only fault is a little rust on sills but at 14 years old and 150,000 miles what can you expect.
If any one is after a micra I advise you to get a well looked after model and ensure its cambelt is changed as scheduled.
MY Brothers got one (1989), I've considered two because of rave reviews(1990 and 2001) Both of which were 1000cc and TERABLE to drive (and ugly and yes even the new ones)! Both were piddle slow and didn't want to know about pulling away at 40 (Very girly). the 1990 was loud and tinny with them both feeling cheap and cheaply made. Both felt unsafe cornering at any speed and they are too small. I currently own a 1988 Mk2 Fiesta 1.1 although it's 100cc more thats much better. It will pull at anyspeed it's beaten a 1.2 micra of the lights and will even out accelerate a Vectra at 70 AND IT ISN'T RUSTY!!!. I wouldn't have a Micra if you gave me one. My Brother raves about his 1000cc and how nippy it is but i still out perform him in all aspects. But i must say this, the only Datsun Cherry is A FANTASTIC CAR!!!! SORRY TO SAY MICRA LOVERS
I own a 98 Micra 1.0 Equation, although its not much to look at, my 'noddy car' is superb. It is very reliable, economical & nippier than you may think. The ride is very good & it has the feel of a bigger car. I recently went on a weekend break with 3 other adults. We drove 500 miles & the Micra coped superbly. I cannot recommend the Micra enough. Buy one & you will not be dissapointed.
Had my little 2002 k11 micra since march last year. Had many cars, and this is one of the best,i love it to bits. Put some nice alloys on it so now it looks classy, and handles better. K&N induction kit works like a dream. Everyone should have a k11

A have a 1989 White GLX with 46,000 on the clock. Until recently, nothing has ever gone wrong (the exhaust fell off the other day) but even if it does, it the cheapest car to fix in the world. The car is a menace to handle and rolls around corners with horrible understeer - it is great though. Just look at our roads today, there are thousands of mark 1 Micra's still around - what a car!

My unmodified 1986 1 litre returns 45 mpg, will overtake, just! (it will pull 75mph in 3rd), starts first time, every time and is in insurance group 2.
What more need I say? The perfect first car, stacks better than anything apart from what Honda and VW have to offer. The only downside is that the parts are a shade more expensive than the equivalent Ford or Austin
