Bought my Almera 1.6SRI for a song at auction four years ago. Since then I have mistreated it something terrible. One service and a home oil change in 46,000 miles. It has never missed a beat, never stopped, never not started, never needed repair. Tyres and exhausts are all I have bought. Still getting 40mpg, performance great (except a bit front end skittish in the wet). Comfortable. Funny enough as per other postee my heater fan only works at full or stop, can't be bothered to fix it. Now its 9yrs old and rear sills and wheel arch are a bit rusty - common fault looking at other cars the same age. I will run this car till it fall to bits (or next oil change whichever is sooner)
My 1.4 has done 50,000 miles in the 4 years I have owned it. What you really need to know folks is that I have found it utterly reliable and trouble free - just one minor fault in fact - the ventilation fan no longer works at all speeds - garage says they will fix it for £60 but I cant be bothered. The car is now 8 yrs old and done 92,000 but it seems to perform exactly the same as it did when I bought it. What has it cost me - tyres, windscreen wipers, brake linings, annual service (done by local garage cos the main dealer is unfortunately a rip off merchant as they often are), thats it, nothing frightening or hairy. Would I buy again? ABSOLUTELY!
I recently bought a Nissan Almera from a garge in Widnes in Merseyside it was a good car untill a few weeks ago when it started to lack power...big time. I was going down the motorway when it just cut out on me and i was stranded on the motorway for 4 hours!!!!!, untill a truck came and collected me When i got home i ended up kicking it. When i calmed down i found out that the problem was a blocked air filter and the dealers said that they had serviced it before i collected it... my arse.
our almera has been a wonderful reliable car group 5 insurance good on petrol nippy even with 2 dogs 2 children and me and my husbandin it ,this car has been the best yet but alas it is time to move on as it is only a 1.4 gx and is not caravan towing material {shame}

I own the 2.0 gti version. What a corker!! Quite rare in fact. Very fast, superb handling, ultra reliable, 30+ mpg, comfy, all electric goodies, cheap 2 buy...what more do u want?? If u want image go 4 a ( overrated dare i say )golf GTi, but you will pay more, and have a slower less reliable car! The Almera gti is in fact faster than a golf gti 1.8T, 2.0 16v and V5. Also beats Pug 206 gti, Ford Focus ST170, BMW 323, Vectra 2.2...the list goes on. Buy one & see 4 your self!
