I have owned my Virago 6 years now and I have had no problems of any kind. It is the first yamaha and this style of bike for me. I do not have a heavy annual mileage.
I will be replacing my exhausts soon although downpipes are still good. The bike is as new (few stone chips) drives the same and serviced once a year by Yamaha. It was standard and immaculate when I got it ,98 £2800. Now I am adding some more chrome.
twas my first proper big bike and the only one ive ever regreted selling.faster, better brakes and better handling than than most other cruisers,i could just about keep up with my mates who were on more sporty tackle.open pipes are a must, giving a bit more power and a exaust note to die for(only £130 from custom cruisers in summercoates derbyshire).decent tyres transformed the handling, mine came with exedras on which i thought were ok untill i fitted a pair of bridgestone route 66,these out performed the bike(in a good way) better in the wet and fantastic in the dry to the point of the foot peg on both sides being ground considerably.it started on the button first time even when left for couple of months over winter.i own a fazer thou now but wish id kept that mean, green, shiney machine
I have had a XV750SP (Jap market SE) for ten years. Great bike. Very reliable. Used in all weathers. Only problems are noisy starter and self rotting exhaust.
If you like custom bikes this is a good bet. Not expensive and its easy to get low milage not a lot of money examples. Easy ride. forgiving, reliable and more than enough power. I've had mine for four years and no probs.

I own an 84 Virago 750 that looks and runs as good as the day it came out of the crate . The bike is a classic example of Japanese engineering. My twenty year old bike will still deliver quarter mile times of new bikes with twice the displacement. It has a 60 inch wheelbase so it is nimble on twisties. It has shaft drive so there is no messing with chains and it has timeless good looks . I own several bikes including a new FJR 1300 and only time will tell if they will hold up as well as my virago .

Bought mine 2 years ago and love it. However to make it a bit special you have to add better sissy, engine bars and saddle bags. Not expensive but does make it look a bigger bike. Runs a bit noisy with a wine. Only problem is that it is Japanese and not a Harley. Whatever you do to it and wherever you go, it is the poor relation to the Harley. It is half the cost and as a starter to get into the cruiser bike scene it is perfect.
I have loved it and will be in some ways sorry to see her go. I have just bought a H-D Heritage and look forward to being taken seriously now.
