I have allways used Epson primerily for the cheaper ink ( I do refill my cartriges) and the cartridges last for ever. It is a pity their new machines cannot last as long as the ink cartridge. I bought an Epson 20usb and with very low usage it lasted only 14 months,it is more expensive to repair than the cost of a new printer. I still have my old Epson 760 fortunatley but the yellow print head will not work so colour printing is a bit of a joke, however it is several years old now and I can still refill the cartrige.
DON'T BUY EPSON. How many more times. The cartridges cost a fortune and are now smaller than ever. The print heads are in the machine so when they go you must replace the WHOLE thing. Also, Epson will do anything to avoid honouring their guarantee - they even try to rip you off with prime time telephone charges on their 0870 number. It is only a matter of time before they go out of businness.
I bought this printer in January 2000 to replace a stlus 640 which only lasted 18months, so i expected a bit better reliability. Not so, i had problems with driver compatability and corrupt software and every so often it would take on a mind of its own and print out gobbledy gook! It has now finally bitten the dust after 19 months of not exactly hard printing. I have to say that when it was working it didnt always give very good screen to printer print quality either not what i expected considering the sales jargon that got me to buy it, and was also slow at printing in high res.
