I recently aquired a 2002 Kangoo Trekka 4x4 1.6 16v version from a Renault dealer. Overall the car is great and the space inside is excellent. Two dogs and all our camping gear including inflatable canoe just gets swallowed up with no problems.

The only gripes are that some of the interior trim is flimsy and the chap who owned the car (contract cleaner) prior to me didn't look after it at all well. There were lots of scratches on the interior paintwork (which Renault has still to fix) and it was not properly valeted (still to be done). The steering is also quite vague and the steering wheel points off to the right (hopefully fixed under warranty).

The 1.6 is a good engine and the car is surprisingly nippy although fuel economy isnt so good (due to it being a 4x4) with £20 good for about 140-150 miles (92-96p litre). Still 18000 mile service intervals should save money (VW had to be done every 10000 which cost £300+)

After owning VWs for many years I am pleasantly surprised by the level of equipment and the car feels solid and safe.

My work involves a lot of driving and I mainly use a Citroen Berlingo Multispace with the 1.9 diesel which is very slow compared to the Kangoo. The kangoo seems to be better built and has a more solid feel to it than the Berlingo (and looks better).

Overall highly recommended if you do a lot of camping.

I snapped up the chance to buy the first demonstrator in Hull - slightly gutted when all U.K. car prices fell and I could have saved £2K if I'd known and waited. During the first year I needed :- new power steering rack, new brake master cylinder, part wiring harness, replacement roof trims. The car was also recalled twice for braking-related faults. Still, the warranty took care of everything and I still love it. It carries anything I ever want it to, does 40+ (petrol) and tows a small folding caravan with no probs (and only very slightly reduced fuel consumption). If you like conventional, you'll hate it; if you are a bit more adventurous, you could love it too!

I thought the Kangoo was the perfect car for us until the headgasket blew at 43000 miles and Renault decided I should pay for the repairs. So now I have a choice between smoke pouring from under the bonnet as the oil drips onto the catalytic converter - the AA says its a sesrious fire hazard - and a 500 euro repair bill

Just used one as a hire car on the island of Tenerife and it is unbelievably spacious - I am 6'5" and we are a family of four. The boot was like a cavern. It seems like a great runaround for towns, but I am not sure that I would want to drive hundreds of miles on a motorway in one as it was rather noisy.

Who could want anything more, van with windows, 50mpg, 5 people + big dog and push chairs, just don't treat it like a Ferrari. I know you must think I'm mad but I paid £8k new the same as an old Scenic and I can do more in mine any day just ask the wife.
