I love my ugly lovely car. It's the best car I've owned. I had a toyota previa before and although really roomy it as more like a van. I can now take my 4 children out and feel like I'm driving a car instead of a wagon.

The only problem I've had is a sensor went wrong and that was quite pricey but I've had her for around a year. Great little car, would definately recommend it.
It's got some really quirky extras too.

Roomy, comfortable, nice finishing touches
Had little things go wrong, like lights, electrical bits but nothing major

What can one say? It's ugly, unreliable, has an awful spares/dealer backup and everybody takes the mickey out of you when they se it! BUT....I WOULDN'T CHANGE IT FOR THE WORLD!!!
It's so practical, economical (diesel elx 110 )doing low fourties knocking about mid fourties on a run fully laden with kids, clothes and bucket and spades etc etc and when I tow my folding camper and it has the bikes on the back plus that much junk to go away on holiday for the week...it still does forty to the gallon!!! What a car!

If you need help with problems there is a Multi car club and they have a website/forum which is extremely useful and informative( http://www.multiplaowners.co.uk )and once a yea they have the UBB (ugly bug ball) where we all meet up and swap stories, have a meal together and generally chill out at Billing Aquadrome in northampton. Superb!!!
Finally, if anyone is considering buying one go and do your research, but buy the best you can afford with low mileage and full service history. Get the diesel as it is so much more economical than the petrol and above all buy a warranty if it doesn't come with one. It is money well spent and you will need it! I negotiated my warranty at the time of purchase as the original warranty was soon to expire and two years was less than three hundred quid. I have had all the usual problems of clutch master cylinder and slave cyls going, throttle potentiometer breaking down and sticking handbrakes all in six months of ownership but, I must stress, with these problems sorted under warranty the car is now SUPERB!

Had our 2000 Multipla 110JTD ELX for 3 weeks now. Still finding our way about it, but unfortunately it's been back at the garage having conked out the first day my wife used it to work (4 days after picking it up). Turned out to be a faulty throttle position sensor switch, attached to the air inlet tract. I'll put it down to just one of those unfortunate things. It did explane why I felt the throttle was excessively sensitive at low speed. Can't fault the supplying dealers service though (F & J at Kelty). Picked the car up within a few hours (leaving a replacement) & returned it sorted the next day. Car definitely drives better now. Un-fortunately, it'll be going back again as the hand brake adjuster in one of the rear wheels has just disintigrated. Again, just unfortunate ? - I hope so.
Still well pleased & would recommend one to anybody. far more room across width than the zafira.

Two and a bit years on from getting
my SX JTD I'm still delighted with my
daffy car. Although the light flashing
and waving is gradually diminishing
there is still a cameraderie among
Multipla owners which says "We're
different and we don't care!"
The few faults - electric mirrors with a
mind of their own, plastic bits falling
off, lemming-like washer nozzles -
would infuriate me on any other car
but not on this one. It's a FIAT for
God's sake, bits are supposed to fall
off! The basic engineering is
excellent and reliable, for a people
carrier it handles like a go-kart and
the practicality is outstanding - just
open the wide doors and fling the
kids in. They then start mucking
about with their reclining seats... The
boot floor may not be big but the
height allows things like buggies to
be stood vertically so actually you can
pack this car to the gunwales.
Fuel consumption is 40 mpg
commuting but high speed cruising
is low 30s - don't go over 70mph
unless you don't care. However, one
and a half tons of car takes some
pushing along so I don't think these
figures are bad at all, particularly
when you take the sprightly (for a
diesel) performance into account.
In an age of grinding blandness the
Multipla is fun, it's interesting/slightly
shocking and massively practical.
My only problem is what colour to
choose for my next one.

Now on my second Multipla as involved in a 60mph impact head on collision with the first when only 1 week old. Performed very well in accident all safety features worked well leaving my family with minor injuries only, the BMW which hit us was totally smashed up. Purchased my current Multipla as soon a insurance money camr through. Love to travel in car, excellent fuel economy on A roads 50mpg, 95mph on motorway gave 31mpg, doesn't pay to speed!
Don't like coloured bumpers on new one spoils look of back end.

I have the 1.9 JTD model which I bought 4 months ago in December. As a minicab driver I have put 14,000 miles of trouble free, comfortable miles on it and I have to say I am delighted with it. Whats more...my fares are also delighted. Not one person gets in doesn't "ooh" and "ahh" over it. I reckon Fiat should give me a discount on my next one for all the new business I'm pushing their way! Seriously this is the one of the best cars I've ever owned in this bracket. If I were to change anything I'd improve the suspension a little, make the windows open all the way down (and a driver control to open and close the rear windows!), and include a pull down mesh in the rear so that luggage stored all the way up to the roof stays put when the tailgate is opened. Buy with confidence, what other car have you owned that gets quiet nods from other owners when you pass them? Think I'm joking? Buy one and see.

Excellent design concept with no serious contenders. Copes well with 6 people and their luggage. Let down by some fragile plastics. Build quality and paint finish still requires improvement. We have a JTD 110 ELX - good performance from diesel but not as frugal as I expected. Normally 42/43 mpg. Not a hope of achieving anywhere near 50mpg even on a long gentle run (figures from trip computer). Handles well with lots of grip. Good dealer service. Overall, a delightful and very practical way to transport a family.

Since its UK introduction at the beginning of 2000, Fiat Auto’s innovative Multipla six-seater mini-MPV has received accolades from all quarters of the motor industry media.
New versions have just gone on sale throughout Fiat Auto’s UK dealer network, offering customers new product features, improved specification, an array of new options, and a series of attractive summer promotional pricing offers, starting at £11,995 OTR.

Enhancements to the range include body-coloured bumpers on ELX versions, remote central locking and alarm on SX versions, Smart 2 front airbags, improved suspension and new exterior colours. There are also new interior trims with a new design cloth for SX versions, and a velour trim for ELX versions.

The revised range is now available in 13 colours, of which five are new, including Indy Green, Pareo Yellow, Artemide Green, Antarctic Blue and Canarie Blue.

Ride comfort has been improved on all versions, and the driver’s door window now has a one-touch close function as standard equipment.

Increased specification on ELX versions includes features such as a new lumbar adjustment control on the driver’s seat, a tailgate with electric lock release, tinted glass, body-coloured bumpers and number plate holder, side airbags, and new design alloy wheels as standard.

The new tailgate’s power lock is electrically operated and incorporates a sensor. When opening the doors with the remote central locking, simply touching the tailgate door handle will unlatch the tailgate for easy opening.

The new Multipla range also incorporates greater safety. ABS anti-lock braking, previously standard equipment, is now augmented by rear disc brakes on all versions. Smart 2 front airbags are also standard, and incorporate the latest-generation sensors that modulate airbag intervention according to passenger weight and mass, while optional roof airbags drop down over the windows to safeguard occupants’ heads in case of side impact.

The rear seats have also been improved and now come with rear headrests that allow improved visibility during parking manoeuvres, and incorporate more supportive seatbacks for increased comfort. The new Multipla range is also fitted with ISOFIX attachments, allowing child seats to be attached easily and safely.

Multipla is also available with some new options, enabling customers to equip their vehicle to suit their own particular requirements. For example, a leather steering wheel and gear lever knob is now available, and the steering wheel can be ordered with controls for the radio, which is now also available with a single slot CD player.

The standard radio/cassette unit has been upgraded and is now integral with the dashboard, thus diminishing the risk of theft. CONNECT, Fiat Auto’s unique communications system, which is the most advanced infotelematic package on the market, will also become available in Multipla shortly.

The revised Multipla range continues to be available in two specification levels, SX and ELX, and can be equipped with two engine options: the 103 bhp 1.6 16v petrol engine, and the 1.9 JTD common-rail direct injection diesel engine, which has been uprated to develop 115 bhp. Fuel consumption and CO2 figures remain unchanged. Both engines provide low fuel consumption figures, outstanding performance and a refined and satisfying drive.

More fun to drive than any other alternative. More space inside than any other alternative. Better value for money than any other alternative and it is Italian which in my opinion is a good thing.
