Sorry but i have had no joy with my 45. This is due to Beadles Rover, Gillingham. The car has been back and forward 5 times in 3 months and still hasn't been fixed. It first went in because the drivers window failed to open, when i picked the car up i noticed the speedo wasn't working plus the window still wouldn't open !! I now have engine problems due to an oil leak being "fixed". I picked the car up.Two days later I noticed they had failed to replace any of the oil, very professional !!! Please please take my advise and do not use BEADLES ROVER at Gillingham Business park. They are rude, unprofessional and total unhelpfull. I have since spoken with many unsatified customers !!!!!
My 1 owner fsh, unmarked 2.0 TdiXL with 41k miles was 20months old when I bought for it for £6500 to replace a 400 TD. It has been totally reliable, does 53mpg, uses no oil between changes & is THE most comfortable car I have owned in 36years of driving. Although the ride is noticeably firmer than the 400, the handling & roadholding is excellent, though the correct tyre pressures are important (29f, 27r unladen). The brakes are superb, it doesn't need traction control and the aircon was a boon this summer.
The already excellent performance was elevated further by having the engine management remapped at a Superchips dealer. Few cars can touch it for sheer midrange grunt. It really is a joy to drive and embarrasses Golf TDI, GTI & GTDIs, not to mention Imprezza turbos (at least from 60-80 in top!) I actually like the interior, especially the lack of black plastic which adorns so many other makes. The current models have white dials which are an improvement. Gripes: mirrors are not heated, needs headlamp washers. I drive 900miles per week so I'm looking forward to fitting a cruise control shortly. Would I buy another - definitely (but not from new).
I love my Rover 45. I bought it nearly a year ago at a budget price. The first month I had a mechanical problem: something about the gearbox... But it was fixed in less than 24 hours. It is really confortable, specially at the driver's seat, and it does very good at long distances. Fuel consumption in the city...I would improve the latter... I hope the new 45 is not much different from the current one: I love it's front line. If anything, I would refresh its interior: I like it, but every criticism I read about my car mentions the old-looking dash.
If you like the "spirit" in the 45, don't think about it and go for it!!!
Smart interior and nice car to handle. Disappointed with 1400 version as underpowered for bodysize (hates hill climbing). Am considering 1800 replacement. Not had to have any work done to date (2 years from new) and very happy with G Kingsbury (Hampton).

ROVER 45 IE SD Thanks to my Dad and B.M.W i finally became an owner of a British car,in April 2000. I love it , fuel economy is better the an expected at 65 mpg on regular routes and 40mpg if in a hurry on motorways ! I had been a FIAT man since passing my test in 1973. my biggest grouch is the lack of proper split rear seats ,only the back rest splits 60/40 not the bit you sit on ? why they did this iv no idea, damn awkward . And the other problem which has affected my scoring is the Dealer i bought it from. CD BRAMELL's of Hemel Hempstead,Herts . I ordered and payed for FRONT FOG LIGHTS, and im still waiting for stock and for them to be fitted. Since April 2000 ,there has been 12 solicitors letters , my Dad has died and so has my Mother and Wife. Cannot decide whether to keep it or hand it back in APRIL 2003 ? Now that iv inherited a Citroen BX, Renault 21, Fiat punto.aLONG with my LOMAX KIT CAR. DO I REALLY NEED 5 CARS AND THE HASSEL? BUT i have enjoyed the Rover the way it handles a good cornering car and superb onlong distances.Especially in NORWAY.
