A great light bike, at home in many different conditions. Good components, and 2000+ miles on the only problem has been a seized disc brake, discovered when being serviced. Trek dealers are a bit thin on the ground but most components are good class industry standards.

The 8000 has held up beautifully through the most technical terrain I could cover. I had a SCOTT cromoly frame bike that was too heavy before that. Also it had a lower grade of components . I upgraded most of the components to LX on the 8000. The only thing I don't like is the Quadra 21 suspension fork it came with. In 96 it was still a two piece assembly. The wishbone is screwed in instead of the newer one piece molded version. This fork flexes a bit when hard cornering. I will keep it only because the yellow matches the bikes yellow. I bartered for the bike. I did five murals for the bike shop in trade for the 8000. Both parties were quite happy with the deal. I would do it again but would probably get a dual suspension next.
excellent all rounder. Have had mine since 1996 and still going strong. Excellent groupset - Shimano Deore Lx and STX RC still working as good as new. Wheels still holding out well, a few trips to the shop thats all but considering its used hard everyday i can't complain. Have had several bikes but this has been the most reliable and consistent performer by far. Fast and Light and easy to maintain. Would recommend one to anybody..
