I originally bought the bike for my son to ride. Its good in standard trim, but after trying it out, I decided to make some adjustments, first to the engine :-
Gas flowed head, altered cam timing, carb, jets and exhaust.
Then I looked at the chassis, I put on a set of YZF wheels, brakes and forks.(Had them allready).
Great fun on the trail, I have even taken it round an MX track and it performs suprisingly well.
I did my son a swap, he now rides my CRF 250x more suitable for out and out racing, but not an allrounder like the TTR

Solid, Reliable, Competent and easy to maintain and work on.

Great bike all around. I ride mine mostly on the road, but i have taken it in two enduros and had a blast. I added one tooth to the front sprocket of mine for road use, and it really smooths it out and gives a bit more top end. gearing is still low enough for off-roading but with 6 gears its great on the road as well.

The TTR 250 is great but it lacks a bit in power. My friend has a yz250r and i got to struggle to keep up with him but overall its a great trail bike. I want to get some modification things for my bike but i dont know what there is does anyone know if that new piston and muffer acually give it that extra ummff to it.

This is the est bike i have ever rode! i can keep up with ktm 125sx. this is a great trail bike. it also goes way ocer 65 mph.and the electric start is awsome. the only bad thing is how much it ways. im only 13 and i can barely pick it up if i fall. Best bike ever though.

2003 bike in november brand new. crd exaust, bash plate, frame protectors hand guards.just had bored out to 325, gas flowed the head and air box mod, changed gearing, renthal bars.done away wih indicators and helmet lock took off gators and addapted xr 250 fork sliders, small enduro tail piece fitted and number plate. no stickers except for origenal tank and swingarm.total cost about £6000 but couldnt be happier.1 2 3 gear cant keep front down 4 5 pulls like a train more grunt than a busy sty and flies in 6.dont know what top speed is yet coz running in.but it is well above 80 mph. its light enough to pull out of any bog it starts first time with a press of the button suspention can be set to whatever you like with a quick turn of the knob and it is not to tall so you dont feel like you are perched on the top.it is everything i ever wanted in a trail and enduro bike.and if you are wondering what i am comparing it to my list of bikes in last ten years includes ts kmx kdx200 x2 dr250 x2 dr350 x2 beta alp 200(massive mistake)klx 650 klr650 have also trailed xr250 drz400 dt 175 ktm lc ktm200 exc.as you can see i have tried most but i wouldnt swap this ttr for any of them.love it. good luck for next season.Martin.

I've just bought a 1994 model Jap import and all is good so far. Loads of grunt for an old man like me (50 next birthday). Really must get some some elbow protectors 'cause i spent a lot of time face down in the mud first time out.

Electric start is a major plus. I have found the TTR to be an ideal first bike for trail/off road and is very forgiving which allows for a good, steady learning curve. I've entered 2 local enduros but it's not really the tool for the job. A smaller front sprocket(13t) and cutting the top out of the airbox has helped performance.I really like this user friendly bike.

I Have a 2001 TTR 250 I Purchased new. I sent it to stroker and had the motor modified to a 350CC. It Rips. Only draw back is finding aftermarket parts. It was a good bike for me when I purched it but I would like to have somthing a little faster. But it's not slow by any means. It runs right with a stock XR400 with the 350cc kit in it.

a previously owner of a dt-200,i decided to pass from the two-stroke engine to a four stroke one.after giving it much though i decided upon a ttr 250.A bike that has a very well sophisticated designed engine up to the point that rides as well as an xt 600 (untill the speed of 90 it ride along with the xt 600 -model 03).unbreakable engine and comfortable and very enjoyable to ride.the only disadvantage is for that the co-rider may feel tired after a long ride (high position of the paddles for the co passenger, probably the paddles from the old cbr 400 will fit not tried it yet, small seat for the co-passenger, any ideas about that;)

I just purchased my TTR 250 a month ago brand new 03 model. I would not have any other bike great for the money love the electric start. My son is four has the PW50 this bike was perfect to ride along with him with the four stroke motor. It has plenty of power and I've rode them all. Great bike for the money and any beginner.

I got my 03 TTR250 in feb03. I love it.
I cut the top of the air box out.(3"x4") and added the Big Gun "Quiet series" exhaust pipe and header..

WOW!! It sound great!! Runs with all the other with no problem.

I just back from a trip to Colorado. (After playing with the carb.) I was in dream land. Endless trails up up up, and then Down Down down. At 220lbs 35 years old. I need to rework the front suspention a bit. But I love the bike. Comfortable. I once left the key on (And the thumb run/stop button in run)and ran the battery down. No big deal. Like any good running bike, I just push started it and it charged itself back up pretty fast. Have not had a bit of trouble sense.

I did have to adjust the needle hight and drill out my main jet a little to compensate for the increased air flow.. runiing to lean. Needed more fuel... Resulting in massive low end power and fast revs. This bike kicks butt!!!
I looked at all the other bikes. This one had the most bang for the buck. I love the BUTTON start. ALL my bike buddies look at me while the are kicking.... It really makes them sick when I get stuck on a hill, hold the front brake and fire off the engine and keep going with ease. . they just shake their heads.

I paid $3950+TTL (Like $4195 out the door)

I live in Texas, A freind told me about Bradwell Yamaha in Mississippi.. Great people, Awesome prices, Will ship anything. Call and talk to them.. ;-)

Hope this helps. Kip Lowe

Just bought one and was reading one of the earlier comments (For extra Top end power on 2001 model this can be acheived by drilling about 3 10 mm holes in the back of the end of the muffler) I imagine it gives it more power and sounds better. Does anyone know if it will damage the engine due to the loss of backpressure? Thanks
