About the insurance aspect: try Carol Nash classic car insurance, mine is under £200 comp. About the petrol consumption, a 230 should return above 25 mpg anyone any experience of running them with unleaded?
Last year on a day like yesterday, I came home to find someone had driven into my 1979 230 Coupe. Insurance proved it to be un ecconomical to repair and so I have some original parts to offer. 4 x wheel hubbs (2 New), 1 spare wheel, 1 bonet star, 1 original first aid kit. I had a 230E for about 9 years. I was the second owner and did around 200 000 miles in it . Sold it when it got to 300 000, but wished I hadn't. Very reliable and built like a tank. Wasn't totally problem free, but compare with the Range Rover I have now, it was superb. The Range Rover is a better drive, and when running properly, is magnificent. But endless niggles, and rust, and things dropping off. None of that with the Mercedes.

Having owned a 230CE for over six years I must say it has been one of the best cars I've owned! For a car now almost twenty years old it runs excellent, has no rattles, has never broke down or neaded parts replacing (except plugs tyres exhausts e.t.c.) and still performs as well as many modern cars. Sadly the car has to go as running costs, fuel at 22mpg & insurance at £375 e.t.c. are becoming an issue.
