At 5' 9' a taller screen would help, but not at Yamaha prices. Join the FJR Owners club for some cheaper alternatives. At high velocity the good lady can feel as if she is being blown off the back!! But all in all single or two up comfort is fine for us, the key reason for buying it in the first place. Power is more than enough for general road use, and at aforementioned speeds, the orginal panniers do not upset the rock solid feeling. Paint finish is thin, so needs a bit of t.l.c., but fasteners and engine finish is shocking at this price level. I am now in the process (Nov '05) of changing all external bolts etc into stainless steel. General servicing has been easy, but can be time consuming gaining access to everything - - I use the owners club for bits and pieces, or mail order - - its faster and fits the bike!! But if using a dealer expect some high labour bill's. A neighbour, also a FJR owner had had two £500 bills this year alone - - one main service @ 28,000 miles, and one for new front discs / pads. Reading this back it seems quite a negative view, but I honestly love it - - for me it's road presence and power is truly addictive. This is my eleventh bike in 30 years, and the first one ever that my daughter and good lady have debates on who is going pillion. This will be a long term relationship, and if you are likeminded and find the new price / new model for 2006 a bit steep, pick a 2 / 3 year old model up for around 5k and go and have a ball.

its a new abs model.on bumpy roads the handling can b scary due to rear shock.the seat is as comfy as you would expect on a tourer.the screen could b taller/ been waiting 4 monthsfor the top box to arrive.not good for a top price tourer, since cancelled yam box an order a givi.these niggles sorted it would be a great bit of kit. come on yamaha get it right before you loose your customers to the honda pan eoropean

Good tourer with excellent performance (150mph with panniers! Excellent to ride and comfortable too, especially over long distances. Overall package let down by soggy suspension, no top box and confusion from Yamaha re the top box, headlight setting(too high)soggy suspension and several mods that dealers are unaware of! Reports of rattles from camshafts on a few bikes too. Not good enough really for Yamaha and a new bike. Yamaha and dealers have proved difficult and evasive on providing answers to initial problems for owners!
Dont be put off, it is a good bike, its a shame about the lack of help from Yamaha.
