Just bought a 1994 A7 in black. I am a spirited rider and found the GTR stable at high speed. The handling was predictable too, once I got used to the xtra bulk (my first tourer!). The comfort is incredible, this one has higher risers than usual but I could have kept going all day. I really don't think I could go that much faster on a sports bike and in any case I would have passed it at the fuel station at some point. Had a top box but I removed it leaving just the panniers - much prettier. Well impressed! Under-rated bike. Ridiculous value for money.

Bought second hand for £800 with 66,000 on the clock. Looking a little weary. Commuted for a month or so, then went to the Alps and back, 2070 miles in all, thrashed it up and down the mountains for 3 days making a TV program about touring (Men and Motors, December 2003. Look out for me- Fat Bikers Bounce Better T shirt) with friends.
The only problem was knocking off the left hand mirror whilst trying to turn in the road on a slope, and braking halfway round. They are heavy!

Fast, smooth, reliable, comfortable. Exceptionally quick long distance machine. Easy to cover 200 miles before fuelling up, and you only stop to refuel, not because bits of you drop off. Good distance commuter. Surprisingly manouverable given its excessive weight. Good luggage, excellent fairing, good shaft drive, easy to service.
Really needs uprated fork springs and rebuild the rear shock ( doddle to do ) to get the best from its handling.
As comfy two up as solo, and about as fast. Kawasakis best kept secret. Miles better than a k100 in all but resale value. I covered 450 miles in 4 hours on mine ( not in England I hasten to add ) including two fuel stops. Belter of a bike. Heavy though.

On my second GTR. Kawasaki's best kept secret. Bought an '89 several years ago and did over 15k miles. Looked for a replacement bike December last year, and found a 2002 import with 700 miles. I've tried all the Tourers and keep coming back to the GTR with a big grin. The bike has a split personality - refined smooth performance under 5k (85mph in top), and the Kawa Ninja howl from 6k up together with the performance to match.

I have owned a 1991 GTR1000 for the last 2 yers and have never had problem. The weight takes a bit of getting used to to start with but once on the move you have a good riding position and the power to make you smile. I much prefer the GTR to the Pan. If you have to travel this is the machine.

a cheap and effective tourer, very fast paced, later models (gtr1000a5 on) has a slightly higher handlebar - so riding position is more comfortable. if you want a cheap version of pan (wont hold its value as well) this is a good bet.
