For the person with the dt125x(also for dtr's)-this is how to derestrict it-the main parts are-:the exhaust, the C.D.I. unit the reed switch, and the power valve unit.Unfortunatley the dtx has a catalyst in the exhaust so you wont get it throught m.o.t. without it- you have to get one from an older bike or get a performance pipe like a dep or fresco.i dont think there is a reed switch on the dtx but the power valve retards at 7000rpm and there is a green wire behind the speedo witch needs to be earthed to stop it, or the valve needs disconnecting in the fully open position as for the c.d.i. unit you need to replace it with a pre 96 dt wiring loom to get full power although once the exhaust and power valve are sorted the power will probably be more than enough anyway with speeds of over 80mph easy. for more information about the power valve or anything e-mail me at [Log in to view email]
i have a dt125x 2005/06 and you can tell its restricted if you no what i mean any ideas at all on how to deresrict it wouldnt go a miss cheers people!!!!!!!
the bike is overall well good. i got it for off road use. poweralve is open but im getting a deresricted cdi unit and powervalve servo. i already have a dep full front and rear derestricted exhaust system. i love my dt125rrrr!! parts are well easy to find (probably more than any other bike on ebay). i have 2 now a 1986 one and a 2002 one. the only downside to the bike is that it is slow with no powervalve servo and it is rather heavy.
Good bike overall, excellent for learners and reliable as well.Best looking/performing 125 trail bike in my opinion, the only one that comes close on looks is the Kawasaki kdx(kmx?im not sure)125, dont know about performance.
hi can anyone help my friend we have starting problems on his dtr 125 it seems that everytime we start we have 2 keep choke on untill we switch it off again it has a aftermarket exhaust does any1 have any diagrams or know any good websites so we can fix it plz many rehards
right then. my ratings are real world ones, dont get upset. The dt is a good, no, very good bike for messing about on as a learner. It is easy to maintain and take to bits, which you will all be doing in your quest for power.
here is the secret lads. Get your test done and get a 'proper' bike if all you want is speed.
if you cant afford it you should have done better at school.
For those of you who are too young and have no bollocks, here is the cheapest way to get the most power out of your dt.
Tweak the power valve (At the base of the down pipe, the barrel) I think its an allen key job, cant really remember. This is unnecessary on the newer bike, it tweaks itself as you ride.
Next, and this is the important bit - you need new pipes. Can you weld? no thought not, but if you can then remove the wadding from your silencer by cutting it up then welding it back together. you just saved 60 quid.
Most important bit. GET A NEW DOWNPIPE. (the bit that joins the silencer / exhaust pipe to the engine) Search for a DEP pipe. Nice and shiny - lots of bees in a can! If you can afford it get the silencer as well. All in about 150 quid i think. Google it for the website. not the official site, cant remember the one and dont have the time or inclination to find it for you. There is a cheaper option, the Big One or something they are called. I cant vouch for this personally but have heard it is just as effective. I would go for this one.£££. Very easy to fit. Take you ten minutes with a socket, 10mm i think, and a cross head screwdriver. Get em for your birthday.
now you can wheelie with a bit of a pull, straight from the power. oohh!!!
Thats it.
When in had my dt i got the racing reeds. For most of you this is totally pointless, dont bother. I also got a new main jet. This is not a big issue either, as long as you dont start messing with new air filters. You dont need to. your more likely to ruin you bike.
For gods sake dont start fitting new carbs from the racey thing, whatever they call it... or reboring.
If youve done all that then you must be old enough for a big bike now.
hi i have had a yamaha dt 125 r year 2000 for arround six months i have a dep exhaust system which doubles the power i still would like it to go faster what else can i do can any one help me?
Alright Mototech, I'm interested in getting some more info off you about your CDi mods on your DT 125R. You haven't made your e-mail available in your profile though, so it's a little difficult to e-mail you. Drop me a line if you read this post. Cheers. On the off chance, does anyone have a pre 91 CDi unit they want to flog me?

i had a dt 125r 2003 blue and white got it for £2050.this bike was for lerning on and it is great for doing that and thats all its good for on the road. off road it is good too but it is no motor x but will perform well and you will have lots of fun.i used to think the dt was very fast utill i had my eyes open by a bandit 600 ov my mates it went like a rocket the power is uneliveable compared the to dt and the bandit is not the fastest bike on the road too. once you have been on a big bike and rided it you will not wont to waste your time on the dt.
Had a 2003 dtr125 since new have to keep doin things to it to keep my self intrested in it because you do get bord of the performance but it goes ok the one big proroblem is the non adjustabel front forks but my local bike shop made some pre tensioners and fitted them for £20.00 cant get ne better than that.
