I have just purchased my 1st Musketeer. the 5 berth version but the caravan sales team I purchesed it from insist that there isn't a bunk ladder for this van - my 6 year old has scratches down her back trying to climb in and out of the bed - this model must have come with a ladder as the brackets are fitted any one any ideas if it should have one and where I can get one from??
DD for Double Dinette - double beds at each end with a bunk over one. This roomy 5 berth continental caravan was maunufactured from the late sixties, changing from glass to plastic windows in 1980 and had the door on the opposite side, hence the difference between a Ci Sprite and an ordinary Sprite. Body length is 14'6" max weight around 650Kg although this is well within the design tolerance of this chassis.
Mine was a 72 model which we refurbished to include water heater and shower, rebuilding the toilet compartment and fitting a shower tray in the process. Solidly built on a steel B&B chassis, has spring and damper suspension giving impeccable road manners and good braking. Has manual reversing mechanism as standard some had optional solenoid operated reversing latch, operating from the reversing lights. An excellent platform for customising, now becoming rare on the road, many having been used for sheds or by builders for site huts.
Things to look out for when purchasing:
Check for signs of damp on the front wall in the bottom corners and on the leading edge of the door frame. Repairing rotten timbers is quite straightforward, removing the wall board and replacing where neccessary.
Glass-windowed models, water can seep in whilst towing in rain, up(!) and through the lower edge of the front window. Check the rubber seals in the window hinges. If perished, can be replaced with silicone sealant along the hinge point.
The wheels were designed for crossply tyres so if radials are fitted, make sure you have inner tubes fitted too, to stop the tyres from rapid deflation under heavy cornering - as with all caravans of this age the wheels don't have safety rims.
We had several good holidays in this van, only terminated by a barn roof flattening it during some high winds.
Expect to pay around £300 for a mint glass-windowed model.

Our's is a 1990 Musketeer. The only thing I am missing is a 220 V outlet somewhere above the kitchen sink.

Well for a start i dont own a Sprite Musketeer, but my Grandparents do. I am only twelve but I love that caravan so much. I have just come back from a holiday in the Lake District as that is where my Grandma lives, and i painted the tow bar on the front of the caravan and painted the wheels and polished the hub caps. "It looks brand new," my grandpa says. anyway the real questions i would like to ask are: Where can you get a new gas grill for the Musketeer? And Where can you get a new metal tray for the Gas bottles? you know, the one that goes on the tow bar.

We bought our 1982 Sprite Muskateer in 1985 and have enjoyed countless number of holidays and weekend breaks with it ever since. I have fitted mains electrics to it and included a couple of 240v reading lights, what a difference these have made. I have also installed a battery compartment and battery charger. When we first purchased it the floor covering was the standard lino type covering. We carpeted it and have replaced the curtains. The next replacement will probably be the foam cushions as they are getting a little tired and are not as comfortable as they were. Any suggestions for the best place to purchse them? We had a little damp in it once, this was because I broke the rooflight on a low branch and I did not know I had done it until I saw the damp and searched for the source. All in all we have loved our sprite and intend to go on loving it, but preferably with new bed cushions. [Log in to view email]
