Had mine (94M, 24v, fully loaded, paid 5k) for three happy years before being forced to sell only after I needed to depend on a more economical car for longer daily commute.
Plus points: such a looker, superb noise and pull from the v6, slick gearbox, grip, comfy inside, huge boot, reliable.
Bad points: quite thirsty, expensive if something does go wrong, insurance unjustifiably high now, peeling paint!
In the end, you buy a car you enjoy driving and being with, and it's a personal thing. For me, I miss this car more than I like to admit, and you will too if you sell up: they don't make 'em like this anymore! Get a stainless exhaust.
hi had a probe for 3 years 16v model a great car indeed agree with sticking rear brakes need cleaning resetting every so often but great looking car very pleased with it
As with any car, If you do regular services and oil changes every 5k or so and look after the car it wont give you any hassle. I have a 24 and a 16 and will never part with um, all parts are available from Fraud or Mazda but I tend to ship from the U.S as it is cheaper, all in all a great, unique, head turning car :)
Stock Performance=118 for the 16 and about 164 for the 24 so you need to play a bit to get it up more :)
Reliability=like anything if you care and do regular 5k services and oil changes etc.. it wont let you down, there a few known faults but all have fixes for under a fiver !!
Parts Availability=All available as long as you dont expect to just pop into ford or mazda for um its often cheaper to get aftermarket parts from the U.S
Overall Value for Money=I love the Probe so I dont care how much it costs or its value ££££ wise it has more value to me cause its a unique car

Overall I enjoyed me Probe 16V which I owned for 1 year. Sold it on as it cost way too much for a 50000 mile 4 year old car. New Clutch at 60000 (shouldn't happen) cost £550 at a Ford dealer. All 4 sets of pads was £200 fitted at a dealer. Rear anti roll bar linkage failed twice at £60 to replace.
Fun car but although they are cheap to buy remember to budget for expensive parts.
Owned for 1 year.

Had Probe 2.5 24v for last 3 years. Totally reliable. Found parts to cost a lot tho. The ride is brill and has got tremendous torque. Pity it never took off. Amazing how a car can cost over £20,000 new and 8 years later be worth around a £1000

great car with stunning looks. 24v has good torque and super smooth engine.regular oil and filter change a must.parts availablity good but try elsewhere before you go to Frauds.Plenty of help and knowledge available at http://www.fpoc.co.uk
THE PROBE IS A BRILLIANT CAR, I LIKE IT JUST AS MUCH AS CLARKSON DID.MORE IN FACT!THE SHAPE AND HANDLING ARE FANTASTIC, ALTHOUGH I FEEL THE INTERIOR THEATER LIGHTS DIM 8 SECONDS TOO SOON!SHAPE AND STYLING SIMILAR TO A DB7 BUT WITH BETTER ALL ROUND VISION!AND CHEAPER TO RUN, IF THE CAM BELT BREAKS IT WON'T WRECK THE ENGINE ON THE 24V.
Don't Believe all the bad press these superb cars get. Drive one, and make up your own mind. Great looks, comfort, reliability & fair performance. Its the best car I have ever owned. -Daz16v
Much better than you expect. Based on Mazda MX6. Even the 16v. is quick, quiet and drives well. (16v.is very economical!) Beware; pre'96 models without a replacement 'dizzy'(they all fail). Sticky handbrake mech. on rear wheels.
Owned for 5 years.
