This is my second saab after owning and tuning a classic 900 turbo. Not as good on the handling front although that us being rather picky, it is a big car. Mine is a 2.3 LPT but has been chipped through abbott racing. Puts out about 200+ BHP and still gives me over 25MPG wound town and above 30 on a cruise. Bad points have been the gearbox needing a rebuild at 74K (£700) and the car nearly caught fire when the direct injection pack burnt out, which my dealer tried to blame on my stereo. Egg was on face as they discovered it was actually the car! Worst bit is the stereos in saabs, absolutely dire for a car that cost 25K new. Mine now has 2 amps, alpine changer and head unit and a sub with power cap running alpine speakers all round and sounds brilliant. A fast car and cheap to insure to boot. I will probably buy another one as i cant get over how cheap it is to run. Local independant saab dealer service is only £50 for a 6000 mile service and £150 for a 12000 mile service.
Bought a 2000 "V" 95-SE Estate for 8,500 Pounds, (CHEAP !!). 95,000 miles when I bought it, Front wheel bearing failed but fixed under warranty (after a lot of discussions). It has been a dream to own and drive. Lots of power, 192 BHP, with the saab tuning kit fitted (thoroughly recommend this) and still get 35 MPG on a run. The standard equipment is excellent. Compared to the BMW 5 series this is much better value for money. I'm getting another one if this one ever wears out, which I'm doubtful of for many years !!)
Bought a W reg estate model with 12,000 miles on the clock 2 years ago (less than a year old). All leather and automatic. As a family car it has been fantastic. No problems at all and low cost servicing. I am no Jeremy Clarkson but to me the auto gearbox is a dream. I used to steer clear of autos because they used to be awful. In this car, you can hardly tell the gears are changing. It has now done 35,000 miles and normally we would think about changing it. But we will hang on to this for probably another 3 years.
Owned for 2 years.
