i live in costa rica, because of extremely high taxes on imported goods (%130) and the devaluation of our currency, cars are very, very expensive, lets put it this way: new toyota yaris = 3 years salary, minium wage.

buying a new car is out of the question for most ppl. i really wanted to get a car, but i didnt have to much money saved, and one day a neighbor offered me his LADA SAMARA 1988, everybody told me that ladas are unreliable, crappy cars... it was so cheap that i bought it anyways

now, i really dont understand why ppl say they are crappy cars, im very very happy with my lada: its reliable, cheap to mantain, easy to fix, its like a good friend: always there

another good thing is like somebody else said, nobody steals ladas (thats a good thing here), i can leave pretty much anywhere and nobody even looks at it, i couldnt be happier with my little, 15 year old lada samara!

Problems with clutch, distributor and carburettor, otherwise sturdy. Roadholding superb on bumpy and/or icy road. A car you have to understand.

Lada is the greatest car. It's so beautiful... I love her. It doesn't break down too often, parts are rather cheap and this car's got a spirit...

I have a 1.5l Samara and I am completely satisfied with it. My friends have more expensive carts that look more fancy but spend lots of money for service. I dont:-) It just doesnt break down :-)

I bought a 1.5 l samara brand new. My friends said I was mad. It cost me 15K nz dollars.

I have had it almost 14 years with no real problems. Its reliable and has rarely never let me down. I have replaced the fuel pump, water pump and bearings in the altenator, these break in other cars. I did 75K on the original tyres one of the few things on it made in Russia. It has never used any oil, and I can get 45-50 mpg on trips. I could say that I have had more value for money than every one I know. I know of one that has more than 420K on the clock.

i have been driving Samara`s and Rivas since the early 1970`s and they have not let me down, a service once a year and a few bits and pieces have giving me years of low cost motoring. compare this with my citroen xantia which has cost me almost £2000 in repairs and servicing over two and a half years. Long live Lada.

I think its time people took notice and got lada samaras imported back to the uk.I now own my 5th samara and have never had any bad thoughts about the car. They are easily netter than skodas but people are so stupid they do not understand that this car is a brilliant workhorse and only the volkswagen beetle can match the samara for the work that they do.Okay in soviet union designs are not beautiful, but the samara has the best heart in any car

you should expect plenty of rattles and rust, but engine is truly indestructable. I own this 17 year old samara 1.3 for two years now and it NEVER left me stranded on the road. believe it or not, this thing can reach 105 mph with no problem.

Beihg an avid lada fan, people who knock them get stranded in the cold. Mine has never failed to start in any weather , runs well, looks ok, but looks arnt everything. I also find the lada badge the best antitheft devise going. No self respecting joyrider wants to look an idiot. If you want a car that runs in all the cold weather, is very unlikely to get knicked, and lasts well, BUY A LADA

The cheapest way to do 105mph! Handling seems unremarkable, but you can really push this car with confidence. I think I have embarassed a lot of drivers with cars that have a better image. I've never had another car do 57000 miles without a problem.
