I bought my first clio from Arnold Clark, thats the first and last time i will deal with them, however, the clio is FAB. 1.2 16v Dynamique. Its amazing on fuel, fantastic runner, cheap tax & insurance. Couldnt ask for a better car, thats why last month I purchased a new shape clio. No problems so far, hope it is as reliable as the last one

This is our second Clio and we have finally learned our lesson. The thing is designed to fall apart and cost you a lot of money after 5 years even though we've had it dealer serviced all that time. The electrics won't let our car go above 20 mph and we've been quoted £600+ by the dealer to fix it. We've had it independently assessed and the computer fault is different every time.

Get another make. Don't buy into the built in obsolecence of the Renault Clio.

They last 5 years
They stop after 5 years. A woman can't operate the jack.

had the car 3 years before having to write it off
superb model .. 1200 cc and real little kicker ..
did numerous long jouneys in it with out issue .. as a city car it was easy to navigate tight streets
safety was a factor in its purchase and on a stormy night it proved its worth with a double 360 and full roll with out one scratch to its occupants .. thankfully this was all completed at less than 50 mph
so cheers to renault .. long term fan here ..

had a clio 1.2 (dark blue)1997 p reg as my first had no problems with it at all- loved it to bits but unfortunatly, 3months down the line i plowed it into the back of a fat shogun jeep at 40mph, got out of the car after forcing the door open without any scratches, just a bit of a brused knee(had it been a punto i was driving- i doubt i would have any legs left-hate punto's-can u tell). got myself a 1998(old shape)r reg 1.2 clio now, its the same as my first one except its black and has a leaking sunroof which affects the inobilisor thing occasionally-but hey ho, the clio did save my legs and maybe more, would recomend them to any one(especially if u put alloys on them- looks so fat) my second one has been going strong for a year now, and lets face it they will kick a puto's ass any day.

could've been great, but let down by feeling under powered in its class, poor road holding around corners (scary sometimes in the wet). But annoying engine problems such as faulty fuel flow and CPU, and squeeky brakes.

i just bought mine and it drives great. It a shame about the lack of heat.It is december and the heater is useless.i went to renault and they said it's the heater matrix but to change it requires takeing
out the dashbord and the engine...What!!!
And the speado cables all up and down so if your's doin 30 it looks like 35 or 25
I use the rev counter....Apart from that and everytime i switch on the lights the radio asks for it's code....
I uses to have a rover 400 but times are hard.I just thought that heating was essential not a luxory....Great Car

I have owned and been very pleased with the 2 x 1200 cc Renault Clio's a year ago I moved up to a 1400 cc Clio and apart from an initial annoying rattle from the elecric sunroof (fixed under warrantyI'm very pleased with the looks, space, comfort and all round reliability of this latest Clio
At a middle price range of £11,000 I feel this represents reasonable value
I will definately consider another Clio when I need to replace my car

Best car I`ve ever owned. Great outside
design (except for the back). Very
reliable. It had many safety points
ahead of other manufactures. Over
priced in August 1998 - £10,400. Well,
most cars were at that time.

I liked the model so much I part
exchanged it for a 1998 model. I didn`t
like the banter from the Renault sales
rep. I heard he `left` the firm. A car
should be seen and not heard. A car
like the Clio sold itself and the Clio
did just that for me.

I don`t like the new shape Clio. It
reminds me of too much of the old (and
awful) Austin Allegro - from all
angles, no matter where I look I see
it. I feel Renault did`nt do their
homework into English taste for this
new Clio car.

Long live the old style Clio.

Great little runabout. With the back
seats folded down it has enough room
for a large family shopping trip. Good
bodywork, rarely has rust problems.
Sun roofs can leak and electricals
cause a little trouble. My alarm
refused to unset whilst I sat in
McDonalds car park, and I had to drive
all the way home with it blaring.
Ignition pack caused problems, but at
only £40 for a second hand replacement
it wasn't an expensive one. Lower road
tax bracket, cheap to insure and easy
on the pocket fuel-wise it is a
reliable if unspectacular ride.

We bought a brand new Clio from ARNOLD CLARK in July 2003. Do not touch Clio or Arnold Clark!

From day one, the car shudders and cuts out at junctions or when sitting at traffic lights. The service department's 'service' was appauling so I called out the AA, as you get 3 years warranty cover. The AA man did a diagnostic check and said that nothing showed up. I can assure you the car is not running correctly. Next, trim round the door windows is coming apart - surprise, surprise this is not covered by the warranty. And NOW the lights are on permanently day or night! Avoid these cars at all costs.

Bought my '97 clio secondhand a year ago and I LOVE it. It is great fun to drive and it has never so much as hinted at engine trouble. That said, there is no getting away from the cheap tacky finishing and apart from the engine itself nothing feels particularly robust. Just encountered the leaky sunroof problem and the Remote sensor is now playing up - a pain in the ass as I need it to deactivate the immobiliser. not sure how much will cost to repair yet but I guess at worst I can just have them bypass the sensor and do without the immobiliser.

my first car was a brill 1997 1.2 clio(paris)(dark blue)great. i had no problems with it and i loved it to bits, unfortunatly 3months down the line, i plowed into the back of a shogun jeep at 40mph, oops! it had no bonnet left but i walked out of it un-injured,saved my life-well,at least my knee caps(wouldn't have any legs left if i was driving a punto). i decided to get another, its a 1998(old shape) black one, it's just as good and has extra's like sun roof n central locking, however, the sun roof does leak into the remote casing,it's not too much of a problem as long as you don't mind getting wet when going round corners. at the end of the day "the clio" saved my legs and maybe more-id recomend them to any one, good all round cars that look great(especially wiv alloys)not too keen on the new shape, and can't stand fiat punto's-you are crazy if u have one-death traps!

A little 'k' reg clio was my first car and my first love. I learn't to drive in it and passed my test in june.It never, ever let me down and Was an exceptional runner, also considering its engine size it would leave the new clios in the dust.(much to my satisfaction!!! :) ) bad points were that it was very basic and gear box and steering was not great. Unfortunatly i wrote it off in october which broke my heart but i have replaced it with an 'n' reg vauxhall corsa 1.4 which i cannot fault. But would definately consider buying another clio inthe future. Both parents drive renaults (mum a clio, dad an espace) and they are both extremley pleased and haven't often been let down. WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE.

I have a T reg 1.2 Clio. Standard stuff, doesn't even have body coloured bumpers or a sunroof, and the windows and locks are manual... MANUAL I tell ya!

Runs perfectly though. I give it some stick and it just keeps on going. Only problem I had was the transponder in the key failed when I first got it and Renault took AGES to send me a new one!

Beautiful car. Lovely in orange. Hope it lasts another 3 years!

I had the same problem with my sunroof, leaking in to the remote sensor. I took my '98 Clio Biaritz back to the dealer (at this time the car was 3 years old) and we were told the sunroof was warped. By what I asked, the sun they replied. I live in the UK, no way could the sun do that! Argued with Renault UK and finally came to an agreement that we would only pay the labour charge, £140. I should of stuck to my guns and demanded it free but its too late now.
Anyway, I'm posting here because last night my headlamp lens fell off as I was driving and smashed. When checking if it was a stone or something I found the other lens was on the verge of falling out. I don't think anyone has been mesing around with it but if you are going to buy a clio check the headlamp lens are in securely or it could be expensive. (Haven't found out how much this is going to cost me yet
:-(

If you want a cheap and reliable small vehicle for town and occasional runs this is it. Barely costs to run; insurance minimal, 44mpg (385-400miles per tank-Diesel) minimum around city, non main dealer servicing costs are barely noticable. Cheap to buy, but poor residuals.
