Have been caught in very rough weather in our colvic sailer with wife & kids on board, didnt have to turn of the autotiller until the wind reached a steady 36knots and have twice sailed her through 40knots. She never gave me reason for concern even if I doubted myself at times. May have to sell her soon as family are growing and its getting tight with 5 of us, but parting with her wil be like loosing a family member!

I built this fin keel sailer from a bare mould. The quality of the mould was superb - strong and well laid laminate with a lovely smooth skin. After 2 years fitting her out we launched her at Lytham St Annes and made several voyages across to the Isle of Man then moved to Bridlington to gain easy access to the continent. Several voyages made to Holland and France.
Handled well in all weathers and sea states - steep short chop to high breaking rollers. She took plenty of heavey green water and stood up to all of it. Not the sleekest looking on top but she had excellent hull lines for endurance and stability. Could leave the auto pilot to it up to force 7.
Mine is a bilge keeler, with a 12Hp Yanmar engine. She's generally fine, but poor when beating- it is impossible to make anything against seas in a Force 5, although F4/5 is possible with help from the engine. Running (foresail only) in F5 is fine under autohelm. I've entered '3' for performance and safety, since I don't know what 26' bilge keeler should be capable of, and I consider a bilge keel essential in the Irish Sea. All in all, a lot of pleasure for a modest outlay, as yachts go. Gwyn.
