Ive had my cbx three years now an its been the best bike ive had.Restored last year to its as new condition,it can still give modern machinery a hard time!Had it to the TT races this year an it was fit for 135-140 over the Snaefell mountain circuit.A bike that was well ahead of its time an had the power to go with it.Engine is unburstable,I have give mine a real thrashin an it never lets me down even with 51k on the clock.Biggest problem is weight.
bought my cbx 1 week after passing my direct access amazed how easy she is to ride. She has been fully restored by the last owner but drinks more oil than petrol ! so a major strip down is on the cards.other than that i love her to bits.
In answer to Geoff's question I wonder if the Japanese models were "restricted" by retarding the timing and adjusting the fuel mixture to run accordingly and by using different exhaust pipes. cheers
My mint low mileage Japanese Import CBX750 is an excellent bike but feels as if it is restricted. If this is the case, how do i derestrict it? The bike is totally original. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I owned a CBX750 from 1996 to 2001 and during this time covered 15k miles on it. I found it a good solid bike (It was after all built to a very high standard by Honda after the embarrassing incidents of cam chain failure with the first VF750s) top speed was about 135 which doesnt seem a lot today but in its day made it top dog (this was 1984). Handling I didnt find too bad but I never liked the 16 inch front wheel. Lookswise it got plenty of compliments from people and the finish was upto Hondas usual standard. It didnt have much mid range though all the power being at the topend between 8 and 10,500rpm. Petrol consumption was around 35 mpg going down to 30 if thrashed. So all in all not a bad bike and one I would recommend to others.
Well what can I say?Great bike to ride very flickable and with these new tyres ( Dunlop Arrowmaxis ) I can scrape the pegs easy. I have owned the bike since June 1996 ( Thats 5 years, dont know where I got 7 from )Changed the oil every 1500 miles just changed the fork oil and regreased the stearing head bearings and the gearbox is like silk ( much better than my FJ )it has 39000km on it ( its a grey import and I was the first to have it off the importers )it has an MOT till sept but will pass another easy as I only done 2000km since it was last done!it has 12 months tax and is perfect mechanicly but a little cosmeticly challenged. Why am I telling you all this? Well it has to go as I cant afford to keep both bikes running and its spending most of its time just sitting in the garage, I would like to see it being ridden as I have been riding it in the past. I have owned my CBX750 for 7 years now and love the power and flickability round the country lanes ( got 2 speeding tickets to prove it! )Its a great bike for a days riding but more than that and you get a sore arse.Been very reliable over the years, just changed consumables, Tyres ( I am on Dunlop arrowmaxis now and can scrape the pegs easy )battery,EBC brake pads, changed both brake and clutch fluids and change the engine oil every 1500 miles.Just removed steering head bearings cleaned and regreased, while I was at it I stripped the forks and changed the fork oil( not tried it on the road yet though )All in all I love this machine for scratching and dont think I will be parting with it in the near future. Not many low milage good examples about now ( mine is 16 years old ) so I dont think I would find one around that is as good machanicly, its a bit tatty cosmeticly.Well thats about it, if you want any details you can e- mail me at [Log in to view email] Thanx for reading this.

Mine is a grey import form Japan with only 19000km's on the clock so it still looks like a new bike. Overall finish is typical of Honda as in it all fits together nicely and there has been a bit more attention paid to the little details. Mechanicaly is great and fires first time every time regardless of the season. Handling is good considering the ahe of the bike but the 16" front wheel does make it a bit sharper in the corners than what i'm used to. Bike has power to burn throughout the rev range.. The only fault in my opinion is the lack of noice from the standard exhaust pipes, this beastie is really quiet and is hard to hear even at high speeds on the freeway..

I have now owned my CBX750 for 8 years. It is currently off the road for its second major tidy-up(frame respray mainly).Overall a good bike, kept in immaculate condition, summer use only (makes me sound a right old fart). I'm getting a bad flat-spot at around 3000rpm,and slightly uneven tickover, which I suspect is my ignition unit. I'd like to try another unit before forking out for another one,so if anyone out there living in or near Surrey could spare half an hour and would let me see if their unit cured the problem, maybe you could e-mail me at [Log in to view email] and we could meet up somewhere?I would appreciate this and it's got to be worth a pint or two! Anyone experiencing trouble getting parts should give Dave at Warwick Motorcycles a bell. They gave me fantastic service for mail order parts. Enjoy your CBX's. A.T.B. Andy Jordan
