I like it more every time I drive it. Over 3,000 miles in 4 months and the worst fuel return is 27mpg round town with 32mpg on a run last week in France towing a loaded trailer. Anybody know how to limit the body roll?
3.1TD manual 5dr. Managed to find one with very low mileage, fsh and in excellent order. If you want service parts look on the www they are very cheap ie. oil air and fuel filters (all three) for £10 plus vat! Not the most exciting vehicle to drive, rather like a small lorry. Remember to slow down for sharp bends. Very comfy and quiet in a straight line. Plasticy interior creaks a lot. Fuel economy is excellent for such a large beast - I average 30+mpg in 2wd - Towing large trailer drops to 23-25mpg. Needs oil change every 4500 miles. So far most pleased.
I bought a 3.0 TD in Feb 05. Soon after I bought it. I had a problem with high fuel usage, smoking and jumping when the turbo kicked in. It still had some manufacturers warranty so the engineer came out and said the ETR valve was sticking. He freed it up and it seemed to run better. After a fast run one day the oil pressure dropped when it was hot and the smoke re-appeared. I sold it 2 days later. I have since learned from a motor trade associate that the 2.9 TD was Ok as was the 3.1 TD. But lots of problems with 3.0 TD (oh Well!)
i bought a 1999 3.0 twin cam TD last year with 89000 miles on the clock, now done 112000 miles with no probs. Would suggest buying a petrol version as conversion to LPG is much cheaper in the long run.
Mines been great.....got it at 93k and now selling at 150k....it's a 1993 3.1 td Duty...the only thing i'd say to look for is the botttom pully as you can get movement on the crank....if you can feel movement with your hands or if it is blue smokin a lot get it checked!!! as this is very common way of snapping the cambelt on these as my mate found out...be warned
