I bought my late 02 Peugeot at a car auction - I was told it was 1 years old but found it was 18months, however I still got it at a good price. The mileage was average and all was wonderful until 12 months later when the radiator blew up (£400) but I am sure this had been a lease or mobility hire car and the rad had been temporarilly fixed !!! I rarely need to add oil from one month to another but realise that it loves the more 'high'grade petrol (like the advert says I do a heck of mileage and get 50+ to the gallon) The steering wheel has seen a lot of wear due previous owner's rings. Nothing much has gone wrong other than a clutch for which I am sure my Son was partly to blame. I love the way it nips around town, as a 1,100 cc the road tax is inexpensive. I need to pass it on now to my son and get something else and hope to get another bargain.
The car is nippy and comfortable to sit in - which for someone under 5'3" is a bonus. I also love the visual display which tells you to stop driving the car when things go wrong.
It attracts some of the worst other car drivers, I have had 2 smack my car whilst it was parked, thank goodness they owned up.
I love my car and have had no problems with it touch wood ! lol i have a local dealership right near by who have been over helpful and i dont want to get rid of my car but unfirtunatley the miles are going up so need to purchase a newer model but i would get the same car again if the right one came along. I have traveled everywhere in my car and has been a diamond. I definately recomend a 206
The 206cc probably improved in 2005. My wife and I have encountered no mechanical problems at all in the eighteen months we've owned this car. Having already depreciated from £14,000 new to around £10,000 it would now be a good bargain on the used car market with relatively low mileage for those thinking of buying. These are fun cars with class. Only problem encountered is one that is common - the passenger seat adjustment works very illogically and you can end up with the seat sliding forwards and back without locking into any position. Since modified on new 207 models
Excellent folding roof. 3" narrower than the 207cc
No spare wheel carried -can catch you out
Reviewing a 2005 model.

In theory this is a good little car - open top motoring with the refinement and security of a tin roof and with the option of the powerful 2 litre engine.
This is the most I ever spent on a car, and the car I hated the most. It rattled, and squeaked along the road, with new squeaks appearing faster than the dealer could fix the old ones. This and the squealing brakes gave the car the same air of quality as a 20 year scrapper.
It failed to start one morning at 3am in Heathrow car park after returning from a long and tiring flight. And then after the dealer 'fixed it', it repeated the same trick shortly afterwards. The airbag light kept coming flashing on, and the air conditioning needed recharging after 12 months - something that wasn't covered under warranty.
And then there was the dealer.
Company policy was that whenever someone answered the phone, they had to chant their slogan. "Curry Motors, nice people to do business with. How can I help you". Predictably, they were not nice people to do business with, and being repeatedly told they were was a constant source of irritation.
A painful experience and I was glad to be rid of it.
6 months ago myself and my girlfriend were looking for new cars. she wanted a 206 in moonstone blue, and i wanted a 106 gti. In the end we got her a 'T' reg moonstone 206 gti with the full light and sp conversion. i fell in love with it so i bought one in chyna blue. 138mph, fast great handling little car. had to have the fanbelt pulleys adjusted due to noisy tappy sound. the car is fantastic. the best small hot hatch around by far. I love mine and am currently awaiting throttle boddies to be fitted. cant wait. if you was thinking of a car like this, i would say buy one for the fun element. they are great to drive and i'd neva change it for anything similar. no car is perfect, the 206 gti nearly is.
had my 206 fever for about 8 months now, and nothing but problems. Firstly, the brakes squeeling, rattles from everywhere, then the seats needed re-padding, then noticed a bad repair that the car had had from BRAND NEW on the boot, which the dealer told me I had done!!! Then the brakes squeeled, so peugeot replaced with pads that rattle in the calipers. Then the seats wouldn't slide forward on the runners. Handbrake won't hold the car on ANY incline! This was fixed but was back to normal the next day! Brakes continue to squeel and rattle... Electrics cut off when passenger door is opened after key taken out. Strange brown ring on N/S headlamp lens that i can't get rid of??? Great looking car, but wouldn't buy another. Build quality, rubbish as well, and legs not short enough/arms not long enough/feet not tripple jointed enough to be confortable driving it!!!
I have a 206 D Turbo and have had it for around 4 months now. I think the overall style for the 206 is excellent, pininfarina have done a class job on a small car when you compare it to other manufactures attempts and its still going strong 6 years after introduction! The 2.0 litre dturbo is a very quick and economical car, with more torque than the GTi 180!! it certainly pulls well up hills which gives it the feel of a much more powerful car. Acceleration also feels quicker than Peugeot state in the brochure, however a superchip will have it hot on the Gti's tail, giving it nearly 200lbs of torque! (and 110bhp) One thing that is worth adding to any Peugeot 206 is the sports pack. It compliments the cars styling superbly and really makes it stand out - especially as there are so many 206's around! Fuel economy is good, even when driven hard the car returns around 47/48mpg and is capable of much lower consumption if driven sensibly and on motorways etc. While on the motorway the car is also very capable as the turbo range seems to be strongest between 2100RPM and 2700 making overtaking above 70 easy. (the turbo also has a loud whistle to it between these ranges - surprisingly loud! I think it must be located at the back of the engine just forward of the dash!) The engine its self is very smooth and you wouldn't know you where in a diesel once on the move.
I'm not at all happy with the Peugeot aftersales service. It has been to the garage to have the following things 'repaired', on numerous occasions, and was returned to me exactly how it was when I took it in: - the air conditioning smells foul - the car pulls away as though it is in third gear when however it is in first. - the radio turns itself on and off to suit itself, and the volume also has a mind of it's own. - the list goes on! However I would like to add, if this 206 was anything like my last it would be an excellent car! I sincerely regret taking up their offer!!
Bought a 206GLX in 1999 and have had nothing but problems with it. Dealer in Hull aggressive and Peugeot in Coventry arrogant - don't even think about writing - they don't reply. Problems experienced with faulty petrol filter, loose rear panel, faulty alarm, disc brake pads at only 18K and recently stress with a failed exhaust and catalytic converter costing almost £400. Meant a whole 3 months arguing with dealer and Peugoet! To add insult to injury, I now think the stepper motor has failed as the engine is racing. Whilst a smart looking car - it's a car I will never buy again.
206 glx had it 9 mths brilliant, pretty quick!handles well, fuel consumption not so hot!heartstopping flatspot from takeoff occassionally, garage says turn off aircon.?????
I've had the 2.0 D Turbo for nearly a year now. Very nippy little car - cheap to run and all the power of the XSi model. But...I've had problems with the electrics since new broken brake lights, indicator power interuptions to the dash and stereo and after 7 times in the garage and they still haven't fixed the root cause...and now the passenger seat has broken!! Having had three other peugeots I'd like to think mine was a one off, but then some one I work with has one and it been in more times for electric faults than mine...you have been warned Emma, Nottingham
Fast! Although 137bhp doesn't sound impresive (and with the launch of the 160bhp engine in September it isn't), it is still quick. In the dry riad holding is exceptional but in the wet the back end tends to slide. Get the dealer to drop the rear torsion bar 1 notch and that will imrpve things. I had Sat Nav installed as a factory option but if you're travelling over 30mph in town it is a bit slow to respond but it is very accurate. Good - Throtle response, climate control, braking, acceleration. Bad - Rear Space, Rubbish standard audio equipment and £ 175.00 for a mesh bumper grill.

I bought my car 4 years ago and have had nothing but problems, dealer always tells me there is nothing wrong. i have looked after the car very well. But since day one the fan belt has squealed at a high and irritating pitch which makes it horrible to us. And a number of other faults have occured all faults other people have had too, the build quality is aweful, and i really regret buying the car, i once loved. These are common problems everyone has and the dealer should be used to but it is an arguement to get them fixed and costs a small fortune.

New dash unit. Earth cable snapped. Brake shoe fell off as well as having a new cat converter fitted. This is the worst car i've ever owned in my life. Never again will i buy a PUG!!!!

I drive a 206GTI Grand Tourisme one of only 2000 made 1211 of 2000 and only 1 of 400 made right hand drive. It is brilliant leather interior alloys low profile tyers and it goes like the wind but then with 147bhp and a 2.0 liter engine it bound to motor. Over all its a solid made motor much better than the RS Escorts i have always [Log in to view email]
