I own a 1998 2.5 CDX saloon. Leather etc - incredible spec. Interior bulbs often fail. Handling a bit "wallowy" but fun nonetheless! Fuel consumption 24mpg - 28mpg mixed. A very comfortable effortless car to drive
The only thing I can fault is fuel consumption, but it does weigh 1.6 tonnes, with a 2.5 litre V6. As for spares, no problem with availability, or price, I pay six quid for 5 litres of semi-synthetic oil, & a whole pound fot an oil filter! These are trade prices at the local Vauxhall dealers. You can buy at prices like these, by joining AUTOBAHNSTORMERS - look them up on their website. This is my second Omega, but not my last!
Brilliant car i own 2000 mdl cdx estate 2.5td after looking for almost a year for one. I tow a large caravan (1425kgs) and its great no less than 30mpg towing, almost 50mpg on long run. change oil every 5k miles, sounds fantastic when pulling hard. no probs yet, better than 2.0 ecotec omega est i had previously, a weak engine! design, studs shearing in head crankshaft sensor melting in France etc. I may have this one chipped an extra 98 Nm of tq! My mate hates it when i tell him it produces more tq than his Boxter!!
In summary - frustrating! A good car trying to get out! *Cavernous load space - side to side with Volvo 740 makes Volve look cramped! * Who said the Germans build reliable cars? Electrics are a joke spoiling an otherwise half-decent car. * Handling - vague. * Ride and comfort - very good. * Feature content - more toys than Hamley's! I just wish they'd put less in and concentrated on keeping them working! * Very prone to paint chipping. * Corrosion VERY poor - rust bubbles on roof, all doors and one wheelarch. * Would I recommend - er ... No!
Main problems since purchase @ 60k *Central locking motor failure (twice) *Alarm malfunction *Just about ever interior bulb that can blow, has! *Heater control valve failure *Heated driver's seat burned out (narrowly avoiding electrical castration!) Entire front suspension bushes needed replacement. (Just had 80k service - new cam belts, frt discs & pads, (more) interior bulbs replaced, pollen filter - over £800!)
Having trouble with diesel pump advised by main dealer to replace £1500+++ only 87k miles. The problem with the pump is that sometimes when you take foot off gas the engine wants to cut out but picks up at the last second before dieing. Apparently its a intermittent electronic fault , but you can't repair pumps. Also one of the pulleys is IE power steering pump is noisey vibrate right through car sounds like exhaust blowing noise. Advised when buying diesels go for ever. But when you question dealer they say well it has done high mileage!
Very comfortable and smooth. Headlamps on dip are somewhat poor in relation to newer updated models. 'A' post either side of windscreen seem to be obtrusive.

Very comfortable and reasonably quick. Huge load space. Smooth BMW turbo diesel engine averages 37 mpg.
Some poor points on omegas:- 1. Sloped windscreen suffers from high reflections on sunny days - can be well dodgy.
2. Lights on dip are not adequate. Upgraded bulbs - now a little better.
3. Ventilation is poor. Always needs the fan on to circulate air.
