Have owned this 3rd generation prelude for 6 months. Its a typical honda, everything still works perfectly apart from the electric ariel (which is german haha!). This particular vehicle is a 12 valve 2 litre which is a bit of a compromise, its not particularly fast by todays standards and with its twin carb fuel system, not particuly fuel effiecient either, the 16valve injectionversion may well be better on both these fronts.. handling is excellent and the honda can be hustled round the bendy bits very nicely, although if you keep the power on you will get quite alot of understeer. Although the honda is very reliable, parts when you do need them are very expensive when bought from the helpful Honda dealers.Tyres for this particular model can also be difficult to find (got mine via black circles, well under 1/2 the price Id been quoted from kwikfit) looking after the beast yourself is pretty styraight forward despite the lack of a haynes manual..most of it is common sense engineering. Its a comfortable car for 2, the rear seats do not have much legroom..best of all, they are now as cheap as chips to buy..find a good one and it will not only serve you well but you will enjoy it too.

total reliabilty.excellent dealers good fun in the twisty bits
expensive parts, not particularly fast by todays standards

I bought a 1992 Prelude 2.3 4WS earlier this year it had 15500 genuine miles on the clock.(all service records and MOT's included) I have had many new cars including Toyota Supra and Celica, Audi's,Nissan and a pile of rubish called a Citroen C5. I drive a lot (average 32000 miles a year) and need complete reliability in a car, the prelude is the most comfortable car I have ever driven. it does not the have best MPG nor is it the quickest car I have ever had. Because of the age parts are not easy to get at times and main dealers do not want to know about locating parts.

This is one car I wish I had had from new and would recomend it to anyone.

I had a 1982 prelude and loved it to bits.Like a fool I part exd it for a new car and now and then see it driving around in a unloved state. I was only the second owner and when I got the car in 98 it had a full service history all the MOTs and had only done 34000ish miles. I had all the BITS of rust done and the wheels refurbished and it looked the biz. The amount of people who commented on the condition of the car was amazing. I have very fond memories and some brilliant photos as well as all the original items that came with the car when new (even the ribbon and card that hung on the radio knob.) I even have a original brochere for the car.Sorry if theres a lot of spelling mistakes but if you need any advice and I can help you can get me at [Log in to view email] (04/12/03)

im running a 1.8 2nd generation lude twin carb model, and to be quite honest goes like stink for an old car(boy racers look out)reliability not bad after all the cars getting a bit long in the tooth (16 years old)head gasket o/s cv joint and (the first time i,ve had any problems on any other car)the ignition switch.little bit miffed about the cost of spare parts which are also a little difficult to track down.overall quite a nice little sports coupe with reasonable performence which to me will stand the test of time in the sporty looks department.cheers

I ran a 1984 Prelude EX from March 1999 until September 2000, taking the mileage from 92,000 to 125,000 in the process. It let me down just once, but that was my fault (alternator went, and I ignored the battery warning light for two days!). Never failed an MOT. It cost me £925 with a full service history. The only fault it had was that the red paint had faded on the bonnet and roof and nothing I could do would revive it. In the end, after trying to replace it twice (I could never sell the thing) I traded it in for a two-year-old Civic, and got £300 for it.

Yup! had one of these too! A huge improvement over the old Prelude. Lots of toys (e/w, e/s/r etc) and lots of oomph from the 2.0 inj engine. Looks good, but a bit dated now. Really a 2+2, not a 4 seater. Don't go for the 4 wheel steering model, the car doesn't need it and it's just over-complicated.

Quite a rare little car. Based on the accord of the same year and looks like a Triumph Acclaim from the front. Electric sunroof was the only toy, everything else was manual. Went very, very well for an old car, but looks old now. Most mechanical parts available, but body panels are very difficult to locate.

I have had enjoyable trouble free motoring from my 2.2VTI Motegi & I drive it like a madman.

In the past I have had a Lotus & Alfas this car has given all the enjoyment of these cars, but with none of the issues.

So far (3 years) it has only cost me servicing, 2 tyres & a windscreen wiper blade. Also found local dealer to be cheaper than anyone else.

Remeber stick to the service schedule & only use a main dealer.

She was my first car after I passed my test, paid £100 and spent the best part of 6 months making her road worthy. Had loads of fun in her, fabricated loads of original parts for her myself(spoiler bodykit etc..)Got my first speeding ticket in her. She was black with gold 5 spoke alloys and my best memory was when on a trip down to Margate I raced a Peugoet 205 GTi and watch in my rear view mirror as the head gasket blew on it sending clouds of blue smoke all over the A11. If anyone reads this and knows where ther is another manual version for sale please e-mail me at [Log in to view email]

Razor sharp handling, v good performance especially acceleration. Must change oil regularly atleast every 6k miles, and only use good quality oil such as Magnatech. Service as per schedule quite expensive. Attend to stone chips immediately.
Parts to date: 100k Clutch £185 or £400 fitted, 110K distributor £235 fitted. 100k Main Ingnition relay £55 fitted. Not bad considering I've driven it hard for 8yrs and over 90K myself. Still going strong and still love the shape.
