most of the faults have been covered, original aprillia parts are not that good ie chain and sprockets dont last long pattern parts seem to last twice as long. the ignition switch has gone and the overall experiance is that the electrics dont like the rain. no leaks of oil or water, the battery needs to be kept in top condition. The good points, cheap to run and insure handles well with the right tyres (avon front bridgestone trail wing rear) apart from listed i wouldnt say its been the best bike ive had but it hasnt been the worst! overall avg. and will be replaced soon (owned 3 years0
I've had my 97 Peg for only 3 months and already I've replced the exhaust system (£400, Predator system - looks and sounds nice, doesn't work very well). Two weeks after I bought it, the whole system on both sides fell apart, it was in eight pieces instead on two! The front sprocket came off while I was riding it to work and the replacement curclip took 10 days to arrive (I fitted a standard clip from a motor shop in the end). The brake light shorted, meaning it was on all the time, the handling in the wet is bum clenching to say the least (due to the Conti rear tyre, I think. Putting road tyres on it asap!) My headlight glass cracked, the front brake light switch fell apart, the back brake binds slightly when it gets hot (so I don't use it), it leaks oil, has a huge flat spot and stalls all the time. Apart from that it's never given me a problem I love it! Ah, can't wait to see what happens in the next 3 months! This is my first bike (been a scooter boy for 20 years) and if it wasn't for the fact that it's so much fun to ride (in the dry) I'd have got rid of it by now. I'm hoping these are teething problems amd after 6mths I will have forgotten them and start enjoying my bike but at the moment all I think about is what needs fixing. Very depressing!
Comfortable to ride, once travelled 1350km fully loaded in 13hours, stopping for fuel and food. Fuel consumption not too great. OK in town and leisure cruising but quite thirsty at 140km/h. No mechanical problems, oil or liquid leaks. Only worn ignition switch. Road handling dependant on make of tyre. Prefer Bridgestone TW's. Amazing what one can do with the bike on tar. Dirt requires some skill, especially loose sand. Two up also comfy. Pillion sits a bit high. Performance drops a bit perhaps due to total 130kg load, usually 70kg. Accesories a problem and expensive in South Africa. Fit BMW parts and accessories fairly cheaply. No official clubs or webpages in RSA to share local experience. Overall a great motorcycle!
I have had a Pegaso for the past 5 years during which time I have done about 12000 miles. This included a trip from N.Ireland to Italy via Geneve & St Bernard Pass. i had some initial teething problems with the bike which mainly involved blown head gaskets. This was solved by using new head bolts. After this I have had no problems. The handling of ths bikes is incredible, and on back roads, nothing I have ever seen works better. It is also very comfortable, even occassionally two up. Top speed is not its best point although that is not what this bike was designed for. It will sit all day at 90 - 100 mph. The exhausts (Original) rust savagely, now replaced with stainless steel "ARROW" pipe. I would highly recomend one of these bikes as long as you dont do too much high speed stuff or all your mates have R1's.

I've had mine for 2 years. Only problem was things falling off (vibes) and having to but new ones. Is very hard to start in the winter (I think that it is the fuel octane) as it it starts instantly with a bit of ether in the intake.
I met a girl who had the front sprocket fall off and that was a hassle. Apparently the small retaining clip can work loose, keep a look out.
The thermal switch that controls the fan has never seemed to work, I think that it is too high a temp rating for the installation. Easy to change it though, and there are plenty of car ones that fit.
The front headlight has cracked as well, but apart from that, it's a good bike. I'm sure that the new injection one is a lot better on fuel econ and starting.
This is great multifunctional bike. Great for the city and better than the big ones on dirt roads. The Pegaso won't pump your adrenaline but it sure will take you where ever you want. Beautiful design, nicer than BMW overexpensive counterpart.
