Are we talking about the same car? People saying that the Mini is rubbish? Well, the one with a BMW badge is, yes, but the one that had an Austin, Morris, Riley, Wolseley, or just a Mini badge on it... I have owned and driven nearly 100 cars in my short 17 years of having a driving licence, and I have never NOT owned at least one Mini. I currently own three. I have one that will do over 125mph, reaches 60mph from rest in less than 8 seconds (have FastLane Magazine article to show this) and can be driven 4000 miles in three weeks in complete comfort (Connolly-leather trimmed Recaro seats, aircon, 5-speed all-synchro gearbox, CD player, cruise control, etc etc.) at over 60mpg. Yes you did read that correctly, a Mini that will do 125mph and 60mpg (although not, obviously, at the same time!) Mine is as fast as any sub-2 litre car (including Type-R's) and embarrasses most V6's. It is also dirt cheap to insure and tax, and the spare parts are peanuts.
Right okay, now lets have a look at the mini cooper s The mini cooper s should never have been called a mini okay? Its the size of your average car eg.(ford fiesta, ford focus 2 door) Now this car pumps out 168bhp and its 0-60mph = 8.0 secs Pathetic. If this car was the same size of the old mini it would have been a rocket on wheels. Why pay 15 16k for a mini cooper s when you can get a type r for the same value??? Honda Civic Type-R 0-60 6.6 WITH A BLOODCURDLING 197 BHP ! Variable valve timing system/inteligance - vtec okay? This car is a much better buy than Any Mini ever made Minis are the worst ! Take a look at the subaru impreza Average price £3000 - £8000 Take a look at the performance 0-60 in 5.5secs - unbelievable power there 215 bhp Basically ill get to the point of discussion Minis are rubbish cars keep away. Ask your self this, whats good about them? 0-60mph is pants.
O yes and before I go there has been reported coopers to have camshaft problems resulting in serious engine damage.
I paid £1000 for a 1971 Clubman four years ago, and with a bit of work (rubber CV boots, new sills, brake cylinders) it has gone through each MOT without much trouble. It's ideal for getting around town, but uncomfortable on longer journeys. Being classed as a Historic Vehicle (over 25 years old) the road tax is free. It's very economical and service parts are easily obtainable from any car accessory shop, although clubman body panels are harder to get. My girlfriend learnt to drive in it, and passed her test after two years. We're just waiting for the brakes to be repaired (again!) before it can be MOT'd and put back on the road.
I had a Mondeo The Mrs had a Cavalier I bought a Mini to put in the garage and take to pieces, like I used to when I was younger. My 3-year old daughter saw the Min and promptly burst into tears... "But I'm too little to drive it yet daddy"... Bless.
Took it to bits. It was a lot more rusty inside than out. Put it back together. Sold it quick. I like my Mondeo.

The Mini has achieved Legendary status how many other cars have the same claim to fame ? As a stop gap to counteract little bubble cars it was technically a revolutionary car which had a personal brillance in its design. Icon of the 60's; icon and abassador of Britain; International rally star; ferrier of every housewife; and repeatedly voted car of the century. The mini has won its own laurels over 41 years of service it's a pity it has been taken over by BMW who only wish to cash in and destroy the original mini.
