I own a Toshiba Satellite p25-676 notebook computer. 8 mos. Ago I purchased what I thought was the most advanced laptop on the market. It was the Toshiba Satellite p25-676. After 6 mos. Of opening and closing the lid it began to come loose. This didn’t worry me because I had purchased the 3yr. extended warranty. When I called tech support they told that it wouldn’t be covered under the warranty because I had misused it. I was shock almost to the point of being speechless. How could someone in Turkey or Pakistan tell from a phone conversation that my computer was abused or misused? When I told him it was not misused and there wasn’t a scratch on it anywhere he informed me that it wouldn’t be covered anyway because the hinge was fastened to the plastic lid and plastic parts are excluded from the warranty. I was dumbfounded. Almost everything is either plastic or attached to plastic. What’s the use of having a warranty if it’s going to be denied before even looking at it in person. I spent over $3000.00 dollars for this unit and under normal use they deny the warranty.

The next week I spent hours upon hours trying to contact someone other than tech support but couldn’t find a phone number for anything else. I even called Tiger Direct, were I bought it and they were at loss to come up with any help. Finally I wrote a letter to Toshiba in California. Last week I got an email saying I should call customer service and discuss my problem with them. I called them and was told a supervisor would call me right back. That was a week ago and no call back. After all the run around I was tired of waiting so, I’m pretty handy with tools, I took it apart myself. The hinge screws had indeed come loose and the threaded inserts in the plastic lid were broken out. I used epoxy to reset them in the lid. It seems to be holding fine so far. The right way to fix it would have been to replace the lid.

Well now my only option is to pass along my experience to prospective buyers of Toshiba laptops. Beware the customer service and warranty may not be what you expect.

toshiba 42WH46 -THATS 42 INCH REAR PROJECTION. YES THEY HAVE DROPPED DRASTICALLY IN PRICE ! WERE £999.99
NOW YOU CAN GET ONE £699.00 BUT ITS OLD TECHNOLOGY
GREAT FOR DVDS - SATELLITE, BUT IF YOUR TV SIGNAL NOT THE BEST YOU WILL NEVER BE 100% HAPPY WITH TV PICTURES. AND IF YOU ARE A RADIO AMATEUR LIKE ME THE SWITCH MODE PSU WILL SWAMP THE HF - FREQUENCIES AND RENDER YOUR RADIO GEAR USELESS !! THATS WHY MINES GOING INTO THE WORKSHOP, IVE HAD IT FOR A YEAR, BUT CANNOT USE RADIO AS THE NOISE FROM TOSHIBAS PSU { SWITCH MODE } OBLITERATES THE RADIO !! NOT UPTO EEC STANDARD, NOT LIKELY TO HAVE BEEN NOTED BY MANY - HOWEVER IM HOPEFULL THAT THIS WILL BE RECTAFIED, AS SWITCH MODE PSUS OFTEN NEED EXTRA SUPRESSION ADDING
IF IN A LOCATION NEAR SENSATIVE RADIO EQUIPMENT HF - VERY VULNERABLE TO SWITCH MODE PSU RACKET ........ SO TAKE MY ADVICE IF YOU ARE A LOVER OF WORLLD RADIO LISTENING OR COMMUNICATEING VIA HF-HAM RADIO . GET AN LCD TV - LESS LIKELY TO GIVE NOISE ON HF - THE PSU IN TOSHIBA REAR PROJECTION TVS NEEDS A LOT BETTER SMOOTHING, IE _ THE SUPRESSION OF THE PSU IS ABISMAL .
WOULD I HAVE PURCHASED A REAR PROJECTION HAD I KNOWN WHAT I KNOW NOW - ANSWER > NO WAY < m.williams. *DISSAPOINTED ............

I had a Toshiba 32/37/VHS/DVD and after a day the sound stopped working, the retailer supplied a new replacement which lasted for three days then the sound stopped. They have agreed to replace the whole package with a Sony combo. It took a lot of phoning, arranged appointments with engineers and frustration, particularly for the kids, I would never buy a Toshiba again and make sure that I tell as many people as possible not to.

Toshiba Television, brilliant. I've had mine for over 9 years. The only thing I had to change was the remote, but don't we all, ( and that was December 2002 )

Had a Toshiba rear projection television
for about two years.
Had one small problem which was fixed under waranty, Considering our TV has
rarely been turned off in the two years due to different veiwing times.is time, I would have to say it has to be one of the best sets on the market

For my latest purchase of Rear
projection 46" TV, I needed assurance.
The booklet said watching a channel with
TV co logo (solid type logo), it can get
imprinted on the plastic screen and it
is not covered by guarantee. They
assured me that more and more people are
buying and using this type of TV inspite
of this problem. Usually, it does not
happen on normal watching unless you
watch whole day long one channel with
that type of logo in the corner. It
happens usually in shops where lots of
TVs are on day and night on the same
channel. I was well assured and now I
am using for 5-6 months without a
problem.
Also, in order to connect my Apple
Laptop (G3 Powerbook) to TV to watch
DVD disk played on laptop, I noticed
that sound does not go via S-Video
cable. My thinking was that S-video
connected from laptop to TV should carry
both Audio and Video signals. But they
clarified that I needed another Audio
cable from laptop to TV. And it all
worked fine, I could see the DVD movie
on the big screen while it was getting
played on Laptop.

The scart lead supplied by "Tosh", was
only a 5 pin wired and not a 21 pin,
after prompting on the phone they
supplied a 21 pin, so anyone wanting to
use steroe via a scart from their Tosh
should check the lead...
